Barcelona Set to Make History with Groundbreaking Miami Fixture as Club Reveals Major Commitment

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has verified that arrangements to host a fixture in the United States are still being considered, with Barcelona being the most probable team to participate in the suggested game.

Lengthy conversations about conducting La Liga fixtures overseas have persisted, particularly following the relocation of the Supercopa de España to Saudi Arabia in 2022. There were proposals to stage Atlético Madrid versus Barcelona in Miami during the previous season, but the concept was eventually abandoned after the devastating floods that struck the Valencia region in October and November.

However, Tebas has disclosed that La Liga continues to plan staging a fixture in Miami in the coming years, with Barcelona being favored over Real Madrid for any potential encounter due to their better rapport with the league—Los Blancos chief Florentino Peréz has disagreements with Tebas.

"We maintain an obligation to compete in Miami at some point," Tebas stated to ESPN (via Sport). "We've already discussed including major teams, or witnessing an Atlético de Madrid versus Barcelona encounter. We'll determine what the calendar permits, but the intention is to feature a prominent club.

"It's evident that, considering the relationships between parties, the willingness...it would be simpler to convince Barça than Real Madrid."

Tebas has formerly discussed how such a fixture might be executed as early as the 2025–26 campaign. In April 2024, he stated: "I'm uncertain when, but this occasion La Liga will conduct official matches internationally. I believe it might happen starting from the 2025–26 season.

"An official match in the United States would enhance our standing in the North American marketplace, which ranks second for La Liga behind Spain."

It remains uncertain whether staging a fixture in Miami as rapidly as 2025–26 is still practical since no formal arrangements have been established, but it appears certain that the United States will accommodate a La Liga match in the near future.
