Barcelona Star Finally Speaks Out About Devastating Knee Injury
Barcelona received devastating injury news during the week, as it was confirmed that first-choice keeper Joan García faces a four to six-week absence following a knee problem.
A complete rupture of the left meniscus meant García needed surgical intervention earlier this week. The summer acquisition had impressed across seven opening appearances for Barcelona—aside from one glaring error in the recent victory over Real Oviedo.
The ex-Espanyol shot-stopper might make his comeback for the season's opening Clásico on Oct. 26, though it represents an unfortunate obstacle for the promising goalkeeper.
Despite this, the 24-year-old appears optimistic and shared a positive update following his operation.
"All went smoothly, Culers! Looking forward to my return! Appreciate all the kind words and encouragement," García posted.
Barcelona squad members Dani Olmo and Pedri were spotted visiting García at the medical facility after his procedure, echoing similar support shown when Barça players rallied around Gavi during his recent surgery just days earlier.
Medical setbacks are accumulating rapidly for Barcelona in these opening months. García now joins Raphinha, Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Marc-André ter Stegen and Fermín López on the treatment table, while Lamine Yamal prepares for his comeback after a month-long absence.
With Ter Stegen sidelined until late December minimum, Wojciech Szczęsny will take over goalkeeping responsibilities. The experienced Polish international served as Barcelona's number one during the latter half of 2024–25 and maintained an unbeaten La Liga record across 15 matches last season.
García will be determined to return to action quickly to maintain momentum from his encouraging Barcelona debut and reach peak form for the season's decisive phase.
