Barcelona Star Slams Teammates: "We Were Asleep" in Shocking Sevilla Collapse

An upset Pau Cubarsí addressed reporters after Barcelona's devastating 4–1 defeat to Sevilla during the weekend, criticizing the squad's overall display and absence of energy.

Pau Cubarsí appeared clearly frustrated as he left the field following Barcelona's crushing 4–1 defeat to Sevilla during the weekend. The young defender proceeded to provide a candid assessment of his team's showing at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

"We depart with a negative feeling," Cubarsí stated post-match (via Mundo Deportivo). "During the opening period they [Sevilla] dominated us entirely and we failed to emerge with the energy this venue demands. We showed improvement after the break but we've lacked precision in the final third and they punished us."

Barcelona allowed four goals in a La Liga fixture for the first time in more than twelve months. Hansi Flick's squad showed no intensity, unity, vision or ball control quality. Sevilla capitalized on Barça's weaknesses, though much responsibility for the outcome lies with the Catalans' own mistakes.

"We failed to emerge with the energy the match deserved. We appeared sluggish from the start, there are no justifications," Cubarsí stated.

"Those moments [when Sevilla found the net] begin from the front, we must return to the pressing style we showed previously, we've become complacent and this cannot continue. There's no reason to discard everything but this represents a crucial moment."

Cubarsí: No Time to Overreact to Loss

Despite a painful blow just before the October international pause, Cubarsí emphasized there's no time for Barcelona to linger on the setback.

"Our feeling in La Liga up to now had been positive," Cubarsi commented. "I believe we shouldn't overreact to what occurred on this field, but we cannot be losing points in this manner. We must focus on what lies ahead and address the errors we committed."

Cubarsí's comments were largely mirrored by several other squad members. Pedri characterized the display as "terrible," noting that focus must shift to improvement after the break.

Barcelona will welcome Girona on Oct. 18 in their opening fixture following the international period.
