Barcelona Stars Mock Real Madrid's Transfer Panic: 'They're Running Scared'

Dani Olmo and Gavi believe Barcelona dominated Real Madrid during this summer's transfer market, continuing to "enhance" their squad following a campaign of complete superiority.

One of football's greatest rivalries was notably lopsided last season. Barcelona triumphed over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final, Copa del Rey final, and on two occasions in La Liga, eventually claiming a domestic treble.

Real Madrid, conversely, failed to capture any significant silverware in 2024–25, leading the Spanish powerhouse to acquire Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Álvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono to reinforce their roster.

Theoretically, Los Blancos appear considerably stronger and more well-rounded heading into the 2025–26 campaign. Gavi, however, seems untroubled by Real Madrid, asserting it is Xabi Alonso's squad who are "concerned" about Barcelona.

"Naturally [Real Madrid] were concerned. It was four victories from four [Clásicos], and that's unprecedented," Gavi shared with AS. "And it's reasonable that they're concerned. Ultimately, we were magnificent last season while they captured nothing.

"This campaign they've bolstered themselves with some excellent players, honestly, but we'll observe what they accomplish this season. They possess a strong team, but we must remain true to ourselves, and that's all," Gavi stated.

Olmo mirrored his teammate's sentiments during an interview on COPE. When questioned about Real Madrid's acquisitions, Olmo responded, "We've also reinforced and enhanced ourselves. Have we strengthened more significantly [than Real Madrid]? Absolutely."

The reigning Spanish champions brought Joan García and Marcus Rashford to Catalonia this summer, two acquisitions that elevate an already title-winning roster. Barcelona were also keen on securing Nico Williams's services, but the Spaniard penned a fresh 10-year deal with Athletic Bilbao instead.

"Every team makes modifications during the transfer period, and we're unbothered by their signings or player additions. We must concentrate on ourselves," Olmo continued.

Barcelona are aiming to capitalize on their achievements in Flick's sophomore season as manager. The Catalans particularly have their focus on European success after coming up short against Inter Milan in the 2024–25 Champions League semifinals.

Securing García, who was arguably Spain's premier goalkeeper last season, and Rashford, who offers Barcelona crucial reinforcement on the left flank, provides Flick two extra assets in a squad already packed with elite talent.

Barcelona must wait until Oct. 26, however, to determine if their enhanced and improved team can achieve five consecutive Clásico wins.
