Barcelona Unleash Secret Strategy to Snatch Julian Alvarez in Stunning Transfer Coup

Barcelona are far from meeting Atlético Madrid's valuation for forward Julián Alvarez, according to a new report.

Alvarez has been on Barcelona's radar for some time, but the challenge of prising a top striker away from a rival club — with four years still remaining on his deal — presents a significant obstacle for a side still navigating La Liga's financial regulations.

AS reaffirm the widely cited asking price of $115 million (€100 million), but note that Barcelona's hierarchy is fully aware they can realistically offer no more than half that figure to persuade Atlético to part ways with their star attacker.

In order to make the deal more attractive, Barcelona would need to include at least one player as part of any potential agreement.

Even so, a transfer is only likely to materialise if Alvarez himself pushes for the switch. While reports suggest he harbours ambitions of joining Barcelona, without a formal request, Atlético's price tag may simply prove insurmountable.

Which Players Could Barcelona Offer?

Assuming Atlético would require approximately $60 million worth of players from Barcelona, the pool of realistic candidates is quite limited.

Barcelona certainly possess a wealth of talented players, but the question remains: how many would the club be willing to send to a direct competitor?

The most natural candidate would be Ferran Torres, whose role in the squad would likely be filled by Alvarez should the Argentine complete a move to Camp Nou. A versatile attacker with a strong La Liga track record, Ferran represents one of the more appealing options for Atlético.

However, coach Hansi Flick may be hesitant to sanction his departure. Ferran has been a regular in the starting lineup this season and offers greater positional flexibility than Alvarez, capable of operating across both flanks as well as through the middle.

The emergence of both Eric García and Gerard Martín could place Flick in a difficult position as he considers his options. The pair have become consistent figures in Barcelona's backline and, much like Ferran, have proven invaluable through their adaptability.

Midfielder Marc Casadó is another potential option, having seen limited playing time this season amid stiff competition in the middle of the park. Whether Atlético would have any interest in him, however, remains an entirely separate question.

Any final decision may need to be deferred until the situation surrounding fellow striker Robert Lewandowski becomes clearer. The experienced forward is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to determine his next step, with both a summer departure and a renewed deal on lower wages considered viable outcomes.
