Barcelona Unveils Special Champions League Jersey to Face Newcastle in Historic Showdown

Barcelona's jersey appears slightly modified for their clash with Newcastle United in the Champions League round of 16 second leg this Wednesday night.

The Catalan side enters this match with the aggregate score tied following their 1–1 draw in the opening leg at St James' Park. Hansi Flick's squad didn't perform at their peak last Tuesday, but Lamine Yamal's injury-time penalty prevented them from returning home with a deficit in the tie.

With a Champions League quarterfinal spot at stake, Barcelona are prepared to host the Magpies at Camp Nou—a stadium that has served as an unbreachable stronghold for the reigning Spanish titleholders since their November return.

Barcelona will aim to maintain their flawless record at this iconic venue, and they'll have extra motivation to succeed thanks to their commemorative uniform.

Barcelona's distinctive jerseys for their encounter with Newcastle pay tribute to International Down Syndrome Day. The artwork, created by artist Anna Vives, showcases handwritten lettering for the player names and numbers on every shirt.

"A meaningful jersey with intention, commemorating International Down Syndrome Day and highlighting the artistry of Anna Vives, a remarkable artist with Down syndrome," Barcelona posted on X.

The organization partnered with Vives to create a commemorative jersey in 2013 for the team's Joan Gamper Trophy fixture against Santos. Now, more than ten years later, Barcelona are again supporting the same initiative, this time on an even grander platform.

Vives, a devoted Barcelona fan, had previously called the chance to collaborate with the Catalans and meet the club's 2013 roster "the most joyful day of [her] existence."

The current players wearing her artwork 13 years later will hope to provide her with additional reasons to rejoice on Wednesday night as the team strives to maintain their Champions League ambitions.
