Barcelona's $115 Million Striker Dream Shattered as Pursuit Hits Major Roadblock

Barcelona's $115 Million Striker Dream Shattered as Pursuit Hits Major Roadblock

Atlético Madrid have reportedly made their position clear to Barcelona, stating they have no intention of entertaining a swap deal for striker Julián Alvarez, shutting down any potential exchange involving the Argentine forward.

With a price tag of approximately $115 million (€100 million), Alvarez sits near the top of Barcelona's summer wishlist but also ranks among their most costly targets. Reports earlier this month suggested the Blaugrana are far from able to meet that valuation and would prefer to include at least one player as part of any agreement.

According to SPORT, Atlético have no interest in such an arrangement and are becoming increasingly irritated by the persistent speculation surrounding Alvarez.

The Madrid club would prefer to retain their prized forward and have made it abundantly clear that any departure would only happen on their terms — requiring a full €100 million bid to complete a transfer.

Sources within Camp Nou reportedly consider a move for Alvarez "impossible" without a player exchange, which could effectively end Barcelona's pursuit before it truly gets underway.

Alternative Striker Targets for Barcelona

Julián Alvarez

Regardless of whether Robert Lewandowski opts to leave or agrees to a short-term contract extension, Barcelona's hierarchy views signing a top-class striker as one of their primary objectives in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Should Alvarez prove unattainable, Barcelona will need to shift their focus to other names on their shortlist, including Manchester City's Omar Marmoush.

Much like Alvarez before him, Marmoush has found it difficult to establish himself as Erling Haaland's understudy at the Etihad Stadium. He has managed just seven Premier League starts this season and could be tempted by the prospect of regular playing time, though he is unlikely to come at a bargain price.

Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy is understood to be on manager Hansi Flick's radar. While the 30-year-old may not represent a long-term solution, he arrives in outstanding form, having scored 77 goals in 128 Bundesliga appearances. BILD reports that Guirassy is keen to leave Dortmund this summer and has a release clause of around $40 million (€35 million), accessible only to a select group of top-tier clubs.

Levante's Karl Etta Eyong and Hoffenheim's Fisnik Asllani are younger prospects believed to have attracted attention, while Dušan Vlahović could become available on a free transfer as he enters the final months of his deal with Juventus.
