Barcelona's Nightmare Continues: Star Player Suffers Devastating Injury After El Clasico Heartbreak

Barcelona's midfield maestro Pedri faces an extended period away from action following a hamstring setback, compounding the injury woes that continue to burden the reigning La Liga titleholders.

The 22-year-old talent, who featured for virtually the entire duration of El Clásico before receiving his marching orders in added time, underwent medical examination following the Blaugrana's 2–1 loss to Real Madrid on Sunday evening.

The Catalan club announced on Wednesday that Pedri sustained a "rupture in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh."

While Barcelona refrained from providing a specific return date, The Athletic suggests Pedri won't be available until following the November international window. The club will be deprived of their premier midfielder for a minimum of four weeks.

This setback follows the Spanish international's participation in 72 out of 73 possible fixtures for Barcelona under Hansi Flick's stewardship. Throughout the current campaign, Pedri has been named in the starting lineup for all 13 encounters the Catalan side has contested, accumulating 1,117 minutes across various tournaments.

Pedri becomes the latest addition to a treatment room already housing Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Joan García, Marc-André ter Stegen and Andreas Christensen. Close to half of Flick's preferred starting formation are currently unavailable due to fitness concerns.

With Real Madrid holding a five-point advantage in the La Liga table, Barcelona must rediscover their winning formula, despite losing Pedri's orchestrating presence in the engine room, to maintain pressure on their eternal adversaries.

How Many Games Will Pedri Miss for Barcelona?

If Pedri remains sidelined for the anticipated four-week period, the playmaker will be absent for fixtures spanning both domestic league action and European competition.

Should Pedri experience complications or require an extended rehabilitation period beyond one month, he may also be ruled out of Barcelona's encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Nov. 25.

Furthermore, the Spanish midfielder will be unavailable for La Roja's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Türkiye, taking place during the year's final international break.
