Bayern Munich Ready to Strike Back as Liverpool Circle Michael Olise

Bayern Munich Ready to Strike Back as Liverpool Circle Michael Olise

Bayern Munich are determined to retain Michael Olise and are reportedly ready to actively counter alleged interest from Premier League titleholders Liverpool in the French winger.

Speculation linking him with the Reds, which would represent a return to England for Olise following his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern during summer 2024, has surfaced. However, the Bundesliga powerhouse's stance is unambiguous.

Bayern are already "discussing" a fresh contract for Olise, according to SPORT BILD. His current agreement still runs for four additional years, but indications suggest an extension could materialize later this campaign—though no formal discussions have commenced yet.

Liverpool's interest would hardly be shocking, considering Olise's productivity at Bayern. Since his arrival at the Allianz Arena just over twelve months ago, he's recorded 50 goals and assists across 62 matches in all competitions—including seven contributions in seven games during the 2025–26 season thus far.

Yet for identical reasons, it's evident why Bayern, pursuing additional domestic glory and their first Champions League crown since 2019–20, would be so eager to secure his services long-term.

Liverpool's Right Wing Problem

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has dominated Liverpool's right wing for nearly ten years—since his 2017 transfer from Roma. Following considerable speculation, the Egyptian superstar penned a new two-year agreement near the conclusion of last season, extending his Anfield tenure until at least 2027. However, time will eventually catch up with Salah, who will be approaching 35 when this contract expires.

Currently, Liverpool's backup for Salah is Federico Chiesa, who featured in Tuesday's Carabao Cup triumph against Southampton. The Italian became an instant hero on the Premier League season's opening day with a crucial strike versus Bournemouth, though many wouldn't have been shocked if he'd departed before the transfer window closed, and his long-term Anfield future remains uncertain.

Olise Tipped for Future Ballon d'Or

German football icon Lothar Mattäus informed SPORT BILD in the previously mentioned article that he considers Olise capable of becoming the world's finest player, having witnessed recently crowned 2025 Ballon d'Or champion Ousmane Dembélé reach football's summit.

"[Olise] possesses everything an exceptional footballer requires," the 1990 World Cup champion stated.

"I perceive no boundaries for him. And Ousmane Dembélé's example demonstrates that a winger can achieve world-class status. Success always correlates with team achievements, particularly in the Champions League—but absolutely, I believe Olise can accomplish it."
