Bayern Munich Swoop for Premier League Star Following Musiala's Injury Blow

Bayern Munich have renewed their pursuit of RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons following unsuccessful attempts to secure their primary transfer targets during the summer window.

The German champions have encountered rejection from both Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams throughout the transfer period, with Wirtz opting to move to Liverpool for £116 million while Williams chose to remain at Athletic Club.

The Bavarian giants continue their search for offensive additions and have been connected with Liverpool's Luis Díaz, though they appear set to revisit their interest in a previously targeted player.

The Athletic reveals that Bayern have made "inquiries" regarding Simons' availability after the Dutch international indicated his wish to depart Leipzig, despite completing a permanent move to the club just in January.

While formal negotiations between the clubs haven't commenced, Simons feels he's "prepared to advance to the next phase of his career". Bayern could offer such progression considering Leipzig's disappointing seventh-place Bundesliga campaign last season, which left them without European competition.

Bayern seek to fill the void left by the recent departures of Leroy Sané and Mathys Tel, who have moved to Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. Simons possesses the versatility to play on the flanks and would serve as an adequate replacement, while the 22-year-old also functions effectively as an attacking midfielder.

The Dutch player's capability to perform as a No.10 would prove valuable for Bayern in the upcoming season due to Jamal Musiala's extended absence. The German star suffered an ankle fracture during the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final and faces at least four months on the sidelines during his rehabilitation.

Simons has previously attracted attention from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United all reportedly showing past interest. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as more recent suitors.

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain talent recorded 19 goal contributions across 33 appearances last season but possesses the capability to substantially improve his numbers at Bayern.
