Bayern Munich Ups the Ante with Enhanced Offer for Liverpool's Unsettled Star Luis Diaz

Bayern Munich are extensively reported to be "nearing completion" of a substantial agreement for Liverpool winger Luis Díaz.

The current Bundesliga titleholders have experienced a summer filled with rejected approaches and unsuccessful transfer attempts. Nico Williams extended his contract with Athletic Club, VfB Stuttgart have maintained their asking price for Nick Woltemade, and Liverpool outmaneuvered Bayern in securing the record-setting signing of Florian Wirtz.

Even discussions regarding Díaz have consistently seemed unproductive. Vincent Kompany's team allegedly had an opening proposal worth approximately £58.6 million ($78.8 million) firmly rejected and were informed that the Colombian winger was unavailable for transfer. Bayern appeared compelled to explore other alternatives.

However, Liverpool's position has been significantly weakened in recent times. Sky Sports News initially reported that Bayern's enhanced offer of roughly £69 million ($80.6 million) has resulted in "progressive negotiations" following Díaz's strong push for departure. Fabrizio Romano and The Times estimate the transfer fee nearer to £65.5 million ($88.1 million), though all sources concur that a completed agreement is "imminent".

Díaz was excluded from Liverpool's lineup that faced AC Milan in a pre-season match on Saturday due to ongoing transfer rumors, as Arne Slot subsequently acknowledged. Despite this obvious hesitation to field the 28-year-old in even moderately competitive play, Díaz joined the traveling squad that landed in Tokyo on Sunday for Liverpool's forthcoming match against Yokohama F. Marinos next week.

Liverpool acquired Díaz from Porto in 2022 for a base fee of £37 million ($49.7 million) potentially increasing to £50 million ($67.2 million). With only two years left on a contract he has openly declined to renew, this could represent Liverpool's final opportunity to generate profit from the speedy attacker.

Barcelona had originally seemed to be Díaz's preferred choice before the financially constrained Spanish club eventually opted for a Marcus Rashford loan arrangement. Barça president Joan Laporta attributed blame to the Premier League winners for this communication failure.

"It's accurate that I was also interested in Luis Díaz, an exceptionally well-rounded player," the club executive recently stated, "but given his situation, with Liverpool being very stubborn, it proved difficult, though I appreciate the player's consistent desire to join us."

Bayern Munich may have successfully discovered a solution to Liverpool's stubbornness.
