Bernardo Silva Reveals His Master Plan as Man City Contract Countdown Begins

Bernardo Silva has disclosed that he has a clear vision of his plans when his Manchester City deal comes to an end, though he's acknowledged it's "not the moment to concentrate on it".

During the summer transfer window, there was significant conjecture about Silva's destination, with the Portuguese star being connected to clubs like Juventus and his previous team Benfica before choosing to remain at the Etihad Stadium. He was also appointed as Man City's team captain prior to the current campaign.

Nevertheless, conversations about the 31-year-old's prospects will emerge again in the upcoming months since Silva's deal concludes next summer. He'll have the opportunity to negotiate a pre-contract with overseas teams in January or become an unrestricted free agent in 2026 if he doesn't secure a new agreement with City.

Prior to City's Champions League encounter against Monaco—the team Silva left to join City in 2017—the midfielder confessed to having clarity about his post-contract plans at the Etihad.

Silva Targets De Bruyne in Man City All-Time Appearances Rankings

"I have complete clarity about my future plans, but now isn't the appropriate time to discuss it," the Portugal star stated.

"My focus is on performing at my highest level and helping restore the club to its rightful position. We've seen numerous captains depart, but it's the responsibility of experienced players to mentor the younger generation."

Silva is set to earn his 415th City appearance in Lisbon and is poised to surpass Kevin De Bruyne's record of 422 matches to become the club's eighth-highest appearance maker in history. He has claimed every available honor with the Citizens, including six Premier League championships, two FA Cups and the Champions League, and might still collect additional silverware in what could potentially be his final campaign with City.

Pep Guardiola praised his captain extensively during his pre-match press conference, declaring: "His leadership as captain couldn't be any better. He ranks among the finest training ground performers I've witnessed, and having him for these ten years has been a privilege for me.

"He possesses intelligence and wisdom. I'm genuinely pleased to work with him, and naturally he embraces his leadership responsibilities. His performance has been exceptional."
