Bruno Fernandes described it as a "privilege" to equal Cristiano Ronaldo's record of six Premier League Player of the Month awards at Manchester United, having claimed his most recent honor for March 2026.
Ronaldo had previously been the club's top recipient of the coveted monthly accolade, which was first introduced to the Premier League at the beginning of the 1994–95 season—Tottenham Hotspur forward Jürgen Klinsmann was the inaugural winner of the award.
"It's always good company to be in," Fernandes told ManUtd.com when asked about drawing level with Ronaldo. "We know when his records are there, his name is going to be always around, so it's quite common for anyone and everyone in the world of football.
"But it is obviously a huge honor and privilege for me to be close to him in this category."
By claiming a sixth award, Fernandes surpassed another Manchester United icon: Wayne Rooney (5).
Paul Scholes claimed the award four times during his time at United, as did Marcus Rashford—three of his Player of the Month honors came in the 2022–23 campaign alone. Ruud van Nistelrooy won it on three occasions.

Bruno Fernandes on Course to Break Premier League Records
The all-time record for Premier League Player of the Month wins stands at seven, shared by Harry Kane, Sergio Agüero and Mohamed Salah. The latter is set to be the last of that trio to depart the division, though the Liverpool forward's current form gives little indication the record will be extended further.
Fernandes remains under contract at Manchester United through the end of next season, with an additional 12-month option available. It is entirely plausible he could surpass that record by collecting just two more monthly awards.
Yet another milestone is even closer within reach: the Premier League single-season assists record. Thierry Henry established the benchmark at 20 in 2002–03, a tally matched but not exceeded by Kevin De Bruyne in 2019–20. Bukayo Saka appeared poised to shatter the record last season following a stunning start to the campaign, before a nearly three-month injury absence derailed his pursuit.
At this point in 2025–26, Fernandes has registered 16 assists and has seven matches remaining to add the five more needed to surpass a record that has stood for over two decades.

That may seem like a tall order. However, consider this: Fernandes has created 101 chances in the Premier League this season, 43 more than the second-most creative player on the list. Even when set pieces are excluded and only open-play situations are counted, the figure still reaches 66.
The Portugal international is also ramping up his assist output, deployed in a more advanced role under Michael Carrick compared to his position under former United boss Ruben Amorim. Nine of his 16 assists have arrived in just the last 11 games. At that pace, the record is very much in jeopardy.
Another Man Utd Record Set to Tumble in 2025–26

Fernandes is already a four-time recipient of Manchester United's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, and a fifth triumph appears almost inevitable.
That would establish a new club record. The annual honor, introduced in 1987 and renamed in tribute to the late Busby in 1996, is decided by a fan vote and carries enormous prestige within United's culture. Eric Cantona, Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney each won it just twice.
Fernandes's fourth award, received last season, tied the all-time record. That benchmark was originally set by David de Gea, who won it four times in five years between 2013–14 and 2017–18. Ronaldo equaled it in 2021–22, having previously won it three times during his first stint at Old Trafford.
