Bruno Fernandes Opens Up About His Game-Changing New Position at Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has disclosed that he's comfortable playing in any position after being deployed in a more defensive midfield role at Manchester United this campaign, emphasizing that "winning is what matters most."
The acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško have enabled United boss Ruben Amorim to reorganize his squad this term, with these three summer additions forming the club's revamped attacking trio.
This tactical shift has resulted in Fernandes dropping back into the central midfield pairing in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, despite the United captain previously featuring in one of the advanced playmaking positions. Critics have questioned Amorim's choice considering the offensive flair the Portuguese midfielder brings.
Discussion persists regarding Fernandes' optimal position, though the 31-year-old has expressed satisfaction with operating in a withdrawn role if it contributes to Manchester United's success.
"I enjoy playing football, no matter what position, I'll give my all," Fernandes stated ahead of Portugal's match against Ireland. "Everyone has preferred positions. In an environment with abundant talent, adaptation is necessary. I've played these roles under Jorge Jesus at Sporting CP.
"When positioned higher up the pitch, you discover more space, the danger is reduced. When I operate [as the No.10], the objective is creating opportunities, scoring goals. I adjust to the team's style. Victory is paramount, I aim to perform at the highest level possible."
Fernandes Accepts Responsibility for Man Utd's Disappointing Campaign Start

Manchester United have endured a disappointing campaign opening, collecting merely ten points from their seven Premier League fixtures. Fernandes bears responsibility for some struggles after missing critical penalties in west London against both Fulham and Brentford.
"It's an area I need to analyze more thoroughly," Fernandes responded when questioned about his penalty failures. "I enjoy observing goalkeepers. It's not that they've performed exceptionally well this season, these are situations that rest on my shoulders, and regrettably, there were two instances where I fell short of my standards.
"I'll continue taking them with complete confidence because the manager believes in me. I kept practicing. This season, from three attempts, I unfortunately missed two. My goal is to convert every single one," Fernandes concluded.
