Bruno Fernandes Rallies Behind Cristiano Ronaldo With Passionate Plea As Portugal Crisis Deepens

Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden and dramatic departure from the Portugal national team has emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the current international break, with teammate Bruno Fernandes urging him not to walk away from the squad ... not under these circumstances.

Last Wednesday, Ronaldo stormed out of Portugal's training camp following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus, who left him on the bench during the match against Norway and later made clear that no player could influence his selection choices.

In Ronaldo's absence, Fernandes stepped up as captain and guided Portugal to a 4–2 victory over Denmark. The Manchester United midfielder, who has shared the pitch with Ronaldo at both club and international level, spoke ahead of Portugal's Sunday fixture against Norway, urging Ronaldo to avoid any impulsive decisions, insisting that his legendary international career deserves a far better ending.

"I reached out to Cris out of respect, because I understand what he means to us as Portuguese people and because I hope he doesn't make any impulsive decisions and choose to walk away from the national team entirely," Fernandes told RTP3. "If that day ever comes, it should be on a day of celebration, not in a manner like this.

"He deserves better; he is the greatest symbol of our football and our nation, someone who elevated the country's name to heights it had never reached before, with all due respect to Eusébio and Luís Figo.

"If Ronaldo ever has to say goodbye to the national team, it must be on a celebratory occasion, not on a day when the nation is divided. The national team should be a place that belongs to everyone, where these kinds of divisions have no room to exist."
