Bruno Fernandes Suitor Reveals Inside Story Behind Two Rejected Transfer Bids

Jorge Jesus has revealed that he made two separate attempts to recruit Bruno Fernandes to Saudi Arabia, but was unsuccessful due to the Manchester United captain's unwavering commitment to remaining at Old Trafford.

Jesus assumed control of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr in July. Prior to successfully acquiring João Félix from Chelsea, the Portuguese manager had been associated with a high-profile pursuit of his gifted countryman at United. Media reports subsequently disclosed that Fernandes never seriously considered negotiations with Al Nassr during the summer transfer window.

The United captain had previously been connected to a potential transfer to Jesus's former club Al Hilal last season during a period of significant speculation regarding Erik ten Hag's position at Old Trafford. In the end, Fernandes committed to a new extended contract, and Jesus disclosed that his choice to remain this summer was influenced by advice from Ten Hag's replacement, Ruben Amorim.

"I had the desire to sign him, but Bruno is resolute about staying," Jesus expressed to Portuguese journalists following Al Nassr's exhibition match against Rio Ave this week.

"We had discussions previously last season. This year, I understood he had chosen to remain with Amorim. He competes in a league they claim is the world's finest, though I disagree. In my opinion, it's the Spanish league."

During the early summer months, there were again more substantial connections to Al Hilal shortly after Jesus departed the organization. Following United's disappointing Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Fernandes reflected: "If the club believes it's appropriate to separate because they wish to generate revenue or similar reasons, that's the reality."

A transfer valuation exceeding £100 million ($134.5 million) was allegedly available while Fernandes could have tripled his salary through a three-year deal. However, once more, his dedication to United prevailed.

"Moving to that destination [Al Hilal] would have been straightforward," Fernandes subsequently clarified. "I'm well acquainted with the Portuguese players there. However, I desire to compete at the elite level and challenge for prestigious trophies. I'm capable of that, and I maintain that ambition. I discussed this with manager Amorim. He requested that I stay. Manchester United had no intention of selling me."
