Bryan Mbeumo Delivers Bold Assessment of Man Utd's Hot Transfer Target as 'Complete Striker'

Manchester United's new signing Bryan Mbeumo has offered glowing praise for his former colleague Ollie Watkins, who reportedly features on the Red Devils' transfer radar.

United have secured Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha during this transfer window, with the £133.5 million (£178.1 million) duo anticipated to occupy the dual No. 10 positions in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation. However, acquiring a new No. 9 to lead the attack remains a priority.

Sources indicate that United executives have narrowed their striker search to two candidates: RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško and Premier League ace Watkins.

The chemistry and connection between Cunha, Mbeumo and a prospective No. 9, along with other attacking players, will be crucial—and Mbeumo has previous experience playing alongside Watkins.

"I believe he's truly comprehensive...a well-rounded striker," Mbeumo stated, speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

"He's capable of many things. He can withdraw deep or make runs beyond the defense. And I believe this works perfectly for me or [any] wide player because you can exploit his movement to find space. Plus he's excellent at linking play. So, I think it's incredibly effective."

Mbeumo's partnership with Watkins occurred at Brentford, where they played together during the 2019–20 campaign before Aston Villa secured the future England striker's services. Combined, the duo contributed 49 goals and assists in the Championship. Saïd Benrahma rounded out the attacking trio and added 25 contributions of his own.

"Initially it was challenging for me because my English wasn't very strong. So, I connected immediately with Saïd, who spoke French and is an exceptional talent," Mbeumo recalled.

"We had Ollie, who I developed a bond with gradually, because I believe it's crucial to maintain strong personal relationships with your teammates away from football. And, once my English improved, I could engage in meaningful conversations with him."
