Eduardo Camavinga was reportedly left devastated following his contentious red card during Real Madrid's Champions League quarterfinal exit against Bayern Munich.
The French midfielder entered the match as a second-half substitute in the second leg at the Allianz Arena, with Madrid leading 3–2 on the night and the tie level at 4–4 on aggregate.
On the 78th minute, Camavinga brought down Jamal Musiala, earning a yellow card from referee Slavko Vinčić. Eight minutes later, he fouled Harry Kane in what appeared to be a harmless challenge, then nudged the ball away and picked it up—seemingly in an effort to slow down the restart.
Vinčić issued a second yellow card, but briefly seemed to forget that Madrid's No. 6 had already been booked, before ultimately showing a red card.
While technically a bookable offense, delaying a restart in such a manner is seldom punished by officials, and Madrid's fury was further fueled by suggestions that Vinčić was initially unaware he would be sending the player off.
MARCA's front page the following day branded the soft red card an "injustice," while Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler, and Dani Carvajal were among those who confronted Vinčić at full time after Bayern sealed their victory.
Camavinga's Heartbreaking Reaction

Camavinga, for his part, was notably absent from the chaotic post-match scene and departed the stadium without speaking to reporters in the mixed zone.
According to a report from MARCA, the 23-year-old was "completely broken" after the game and "cried uncontrollably" over his dismissal in the dressing room. It is also reported that the player acknowledges his role in the incident and recognizes he should have left the ball alone after the foul rather than giving the referee cause to act.
He later took to social media to write: "I take responsibility for my part. I want to apologize to the team and to the Madridistas. Thank you for your support, Hala Madrid."
Speaking ahead of the La Liga clash against Alavés, Álvaro Arbeloa told the press: "Camavinga is in pain because he understands how much the Champions League means to Real Madrid.
"He has my full confidence and that of the club, along with the affection of the fans, and I hope he remains here for many years to come."
What Next for Camavinga at Madrid?

Even before the Bayern clash, questions surrounding Camavinga's future had been lingering for some time.
The Angola-born French international arrived at Madrid with great expectations in 2021, signing from Rennes for approximately $36 million (€31 million) as one of the most sought-after young talents on the continent.
However, the midfielder has struggled to cement a regular starting position at the Bernabéu and has been deployed as a versatile option across multiple midfield roles and, on occasion, at left back.
Most frequently, he has served as a backup to Aurélien Tchouaméni in the holding midfield role. While not his natural position, his standout moment at Madrid came during the 2024 Champions League final win over Dortmund, where he excelled in his compatriot's absence.
This season, however, Camavinga's involvement has diminished further, and a string of high-profile mistakes have become the focus of social media compilations dubbed "Camavingadas."
Despite Arbeloa's public support of Camavinga following the Bayern defeat, 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch has frequently been favored in important matches this season, and the coach appeared to hold the under-scrutiny midfielder accountable for losing his man for the opening goal in the recent 2–1 loss to Mallorca.
With reports suggesting Madrid are willing to offload the Frenchman this summer to help finance new signings, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been mentioned as potential destinations for Camavinga, who remains under contract at the Bernabéu until 2029.
A fresh start elsewhere could prove to be the best move for Camavinga's career. His challenge between now and the end of the season is to finish on a high and remind prospective clubs—and Madrid—of the talent that earned him the Kopa Trophy runner-up award back in 2022.
