Casemiro Reveals How Lionel Messi's Career Move Sparked His Bold Man Utd Departure

Casemiro is said to be "receptive" to the idea of moving to Major League Soccer when his Manchester United deal concludes this summer, attracted by the laid-back atmosphere that stars like Lionel Messi have enthusiastically endorsed.

The recently-turned 34-year-old midfielder has already announced this will be his last campaign at Old Trafford, though where he'll play next remains unclear. The lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia's top division continue to beckon, while numerous European clubs would welcome the services of the five-time Champions League champion.

Multiple MLS franchises have been linked as potential destinations, and it seems the Brazilian shares their interest. According to The Telegraph, the "lifestyle" benefits of playing in America's premier soccer league strongly appeal to Casemiro, who frequently vacations in Miami.

Messi, who serves as Inter Miami's star player and the league's biggest attraction, has spoken glowingly about the lifestyle benefits he and his family enjoy in Florida, describing it as "more laid-back" compared to Europe's demanding football environment.

"We're savoring every moment, and in a unique way, because the experience here is different—more peaceful, with less stress, without the constant pressure—though I've always been driven—to succeed and reach our objectives," Messi shared at the close of 2025.

"Naturally, we still want to [succeed], but the intensity is different now, which creates a more comfortable atmosphere.

"We have more quality time with our family, the children, they can attend training sessions and matches, we spend considerably more time at home, and when I return, I'm not constantly consumed by football thoughts—I can focus on other aspects of life.

"This shift, whether you appreciate it or not, transforms how you live because previously, poor results and daily pressures would affect me, and sometimes I'd return home irritated, which was challenging. Here, we're content."

Casemiro has endured the intense scrutiny of Europe's top tier for over ten years. The former São Paulo youth product made 336 appearances for Real Madrid before transferring to Manchester United in 2022, representing two clubs with massive global followings and intense media attention. Now in his mid-thirties with a family he's frequently separated from, Messi's idealized portrayal of MLS life holds clear attraction.

While MLS might appear to be Messi's personal showcase, numerous European players have miscalculated the league's physical demands. "It might not appear so, but clubs cover significant ground," the Argentine has cautioned previously. "There are numerous end-to-end contests, particularly in closing stages with open play. I believe it's a competition where teams continue improving."

Andrea Pirlo experienced this harsh reality firsthand when he signed with New York City FC nearly ten years ago. "It's an extremely demanding competition," the thoughtful Italian complained. "It's highly physical with extensive running. There's substantial physical demands and, in my opinion, insufficient technical play."

Nevertheless, Casemiro has successfully matched the Premier League's demanding tempo this season, and United manager Michael Carrick believes he can maintain these high standards moving forward. "I'm confident he can," the former midfielder stated, "he's performing at as high a standard as he has in quite some time currently, and it's wonderful to witness in many respects.

"The wisdom, technical ability, tactical awareness, just calmness in key situations—he's in an excellent state.

"I must say, Cas has been exceptional since my arrival, both on and off the field. Experience becomes valuable when utilized properly, and I believe that over time, being a veteran player here carries the responsibility of setting standards, assisting younger teammates, supporting the squad, and sharing knowledge positively. He's been outstanding since I arrived in numerous ways, and working with him has been delightful."

An MLS club may soon learn firsthand what a delight it would be to have Casemiro in their squad this summer.
