Manchester United caretaker boss Michael Carrick has confirmed there will be no contract extension for midfielder Casemiro, with the player's departure from the club this summer set to go ahead as planned.
Supporters chanted for "one more year" from Casemiro after he broke the deadlock in Monday's 2–1 victory against Brentford, capping an impressive stretch of performances that will conclude this summer following his announcement of an imminent exit from Old Trafford back in January.
Matheus Cunha, his partner at both club and international level, joined those calls on social media after the match, but Carrick has urged fans to temper their expectations.
"It's pretty clear," Carrick emphasized. "From both sides, it's pretty clear, the decision," the caretaker manager stated.
"It's pretty clear, too, how much it means to him [playing for United] and probably the situation and the clarity of the decision has helped everything to be understandable for the supporters as well.
"Credit to him because he's given absolutely everything and had some big moments for us, so all round it's quite a nice direction for it to be taken."
Replacing Casemiro Becomes Man Utd's Top Priority

A year ago, the prospect of losing Casemiro was the last thing keeping United supporters awake at night. The Brazilian was among several players struggling to adapt to Ruben Amorim's system, and he would likely have been offloaded last summer had his hefty wages not been offset by underwhelming displays.
The story has changed entirely this season. Casemiro began his revival under Amorim and has seen it through under Carrick, developing into a remarkable blend of box-to-box energy and defensive composure that has proven crucial to United's push into contention for Champions League football.
It was already known that United intended to invest heavily in midfield reinforcements last summer. Those ambitions persisted even as Casemiro rediscovered his best form under Amorim, but now, with his exit confirmed, finding a replacement for the Brazilian has arguably overtaken the search for a complementary partner alongside him in importance.
The standard required feels almost unattainable. United will likely pursue a younger profile but must identify someone capable of replicating Casemiro's influence, leadership and consistency. The pool of viable candidates is remarkably shallow.
The Extensive Shortlist of Targets

Near the top of United's wish list are Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali. Both are anticipated to command enormous fees and both have high-profile admirers ready to enter competitive bidding.
Settling for a cheaper alternative may make financial sense, but United cannot risk losing the immediate contribution Casemiro provides. They must continue targeting elite-level players and will need to pay a premium for the right replacement, even if that means going above market value.
With any remaining budget, United should then look to address further gaps. It should not be forgotten that Kobbie Mainoo has returned to form in midfield, easing the urgency for a second costly addition.
Further signings will nonetheless be required. Manuel Ugarte's anticipated departure would leave Mainoo and Casemiro's replacement as the only two senior midfield options available. At least one more addition is essential, and United may even be prudent to build the numbers up to four as they gear up for the demands of European competition once again.
The financial outlay will be significant, which is precisely why United fans are desperate for one final season from Casemiro. Regrettably for the Red Devils, barring a dramatic and unexpected change of heart, that simply will not be happening.
