And then there were four...
The Champions League semifinals have arrived. Sure, there's a degree of familiarity, given that we've already witnessed both matchups during the league phase, but those prior encounters only add weight to the storylines ahead.
On one side, there's a potentially all-time great Champions League clash. Barcelona and Inter Milan certainly delivered at this stage last year, but Paris Saint-Germain's showdown with Bayern Munich has every chance of surpassing that, entering an entirely new dimension of attacking brilliance.
In the other corner, there's a contest some are dismissing as less glamorous. However, Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid have shown a growing ability to catch opponents off guard by moving away from their trademark defensive grit, and they may well draw out some creativity from Arsenal over the coming days.
Here's how Sports Illustrated sees the semifinal first legs unfolding.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich

The competition's two top-scoring sides square off for 180 minutes of relentless, breathtaking football.
Anticipation is sky-high for this tie, with holders Paris Saint-Germain showcasing their brilliance throughout the knockout rounds so far, while Bayern Munich are in the midst of a record-shattering goalscoring campaign in the Bundesliga.
PSG are still battling for another Ligue 1 crown, while Bayern have already secured the domestic title. No team in Germany has found a way to contain their fluid, instinctive play this season, and much of Europe has found them equally difficult to handle.
This represents the sternest knockout test yet for both clubs, even if Bayern had to overcome Real Madrid for the first time since 2012 to reach this point. PSG, meanwhile, have continued their dominance over Premier League opposition as they chase back-to-back Champions League titles.
Only Madrid, who claimed three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018, have won the trophy in back-to-back seasons since the competition was rebranded in 1992.
A sixth successive Champions League victory for Bayern over PSG would put the Bavarians firmly on course for their first final appearance since they last lifted the trophy in 2020.
Prediction: PSG 2–2 Bayern Munich
Atlético Madrid vs. Arsenal

Arsenal dismantled Atlético Madrid in their early-season encounter at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners side that clicked so brilliantly during that memorable 13-minute spell back then has since transformed into something quite different.
The Premier League title contenders have thrown away a significant domestic lead and appear to be running on empty heading into the final stretch. Two legs against Simeone's side is far from ideal, yet Arsenal cannot afford to overlook what is a golden chance to reach the Champions League final for the first time since 2006.
Atléti ended a difficult home run against Athletic Club at the weekend, having impressively edged past Barcelona in the quarterfinals. Simeone must sense something special about this group, as he looks to return to the showpiece occasion after two heartbreaking final defeats to their city rivals in 2014 and 2016.
His team have steamrolled numerous opponents on home turf this season, and a fatigued Arsenal side cannot afford to arrive at the Metropolitano underprepared. The visitors should consider a narrow defeat a reasonable outcome, setting the stage for an exciting second leg.
Prediction: Atlético Madrid 2–1 Arsenal
