Chelsea Discover Barcelona Star's Asking Price Following Initial Bid

Reports suggest that Barcelona may consider parting ways with academy product Marc Casado during the upcoming transfer window following his impressive breakthrough campaign, with Chelsea reportedly among the clubs interested in securing his services.
Following Marc Bernal's serious knee injury in August 2024, Casadó stepped up to become a key figure in Hansi Flick's midfield setup during the early stages of the 2024–25 campaign. The promising Spanish midfielder partnered with Pedri while Frenkie de Jong was sidelined with an ankle problem that kept him unavailable until October.
Casadó's outstanding performances for a Barcelona side that excelled early in the season initially made it difficult for De Jong to reclaim his position upon return. However, Flick eventually reintegrated the Dutch international, who played a prominent role during the latter part of the season after Casadó sustained an LCL tear in March.
Despite still recovering from his serious knee setback, the 21-year-old has attracted attention from potential suitors this summer. Both Chelsea and Atlético Madrid have been linked with moves for the player, with the London club reportedly tabling a bid worth €30 million (£25.9 million, $35.3 million).
Based on reports from SPORT, Barcelona are seeking up to €50 million (£43.1 million, $58.8 million) for Casadó's transfer. While the La Liga titleholders value the Spanish midfielder's abilities, they also view him as an asset that could generate substantial funds to address their ongoing financial challenges.
Barcelona possess considerable depth in their midfield department, with De Jong and Pedri expected to form the primary partnership heading into 2025–26. Gavi can also operate in a deeper role despite playing further forward last season, while Bernal is nearing a return from his extended injury layoff.
Regarding Chelsea's situation, although Roméo Lavia remains plagued by fitness issues, the Blues have substantial midfield options including Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Andrey Santos, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Dário Essugo in their squad rotation.
