Chelsea Face Juventus: Bold Predictions, Key Matchups, and Expected Lineups Revealed

Hong Kong is set to stage yet another marquee summer friendly, with Chelsea and Juventus squaring off at Kai Tak Sports Park on Wednesday.

While Juve are making a Far East stopover en route to Australia, the Blues are already into the second phase of a comparable preseason tour, having previously spent time in Sydney.

There, Xabi Alonso's side triumphed over Western Sydney Wanderers in a 10-goal spectacle, before falling to a 10-man Tottenham Hotspur courtesy of Richarlison's late winner. They have two further tour fixtures remaining before heading back to west London for one last preseason match against Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge.

Their Premier League season opener comes against a Real Madrid-influenced Fulham on Aug. 24.

Serie A gets underway on the same weekend for Juventus, who begin their campaign at Frosinone on Aug. 23. A deflating end to 2025–26 saw the Bianconeri finish sixth, meaning they'll be competing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League this season.

Luciano Spalletti's first preseason in charge has shown early promise, with Juve yet to concede across three European fixtures. After opening the summer with a draw against Basel on July 18, the Old Lady edged past Standard Liège before defeating OGC Nice 2–0.

It's difficult to think of Chelsea and Juventus together without Oscar coming to mind. No Blues fan from that era has forgotten the Brazilian's stunning effort at the Bridge in a 2–2 draw against a Juve side that was considerably more formidable than today's version.

The Old Lady may no longer command the same stature they once did, but they at least have the right manager to guide them back to the top. Spalletti has been at the helm since last October, and in April, the Scudetto-winning coach extended his contract with Napoli through 2028.

Chelsea have made an upbeat start to preseason, with Alonso gradually raising the intensity. Key players are accumulating more minutes, and the Spaniard won't have been overly troubled by the defeat to Spurs, in which Antonín Kinský delivered a standout display in goal.

Chelsea's touring squad has been bolstered since the weekend, giving Alonso greater options across the pitch, but Juve have also strengthened through new arrivals and are equally advanced in their preseason preparations.

Prediction: Chelsea 1–1 Juventus

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs. Juventus

Mykhailo Mudryk has been given the green light to resume playing after his four-year doping suspension was recently reduced, though the Ukrainian winger hasn't featured since November 2024.

Chelsea have also been strengthened by the arrivals of Pedro Neto, Geovany Quenda, Mike Penders and Gabriel Slonina in Hong Kong, with new recruit Danny Welbeck also linking up with the squad.

Jordan Henderson, another experienced addition, is taking a break following the World Cup, as is Argentine full-back Valentín Barco. Reece James and Morgan Rogers have also not made the trip to the Far East.

A minor knock to Robert Sánchez could mean Teddy Sharman-Lowe continues between the sticks for Alonso's side.

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs. Juventus (4-2-3-1): Sharman-Lowe; Acheampong, Fofana, Colwill, Hato; Watson, Essugo; Kavuma-McQueen, Palmer, Gittens; Pedro.

Spalletti has brought a 31-man squad on tour, including new additions Randal Kolo Muani and Karim Alajbegović. Kolo Muani has completed a permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain following a successful loan stint in 2024–25.

Kenan Yıldız was absent from the win over Nice in their last outing, but he has traveled to Hong Kong and could force his way into Spalletti's starting eleven on Wednesday. The Turkish international endured a tough World Cup, yet wears Juve's No. 10 shirt for good reason.

USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie is expected to feature on tour, though Manuel Locatelli and Douglas Luíz are likely to start in the engine room against Chelsea. McKennie should get time off the bench following his summer exploits on home soil at the World Cup.

Juventus Predicted Lineup vs. Chelsea (3-4-3): Di Gregorio; Gatti, Kelly, Kalulu; Çelik, Locatelli, Luíz, Cambiaso; Zhegrova, Kolo Muani, Yıldız.
