Chelsea Face Liverpool Crisis with Seven Key Stars Sidelined
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca anticipates being without up to eight squad members for Saturday's crucial clash against Liverpool.
The Blues manager faces mounting pressure following a disappointing haul of just eight points from their opening six fixtures, which were relatively favorable on paper for Chelsea.
Maresca recognizes the urgent need for improvement ahead of Liverpool's visit to Stamford Bridge, though his team selection options remain severely restricted due to numerous players sidelined through injuries or disciplinary action.
During his pre-match media briefing, Maresca consistently highlighted the extent of his unavailable personnel. "We have seven or eight players out," he concluded on the matter, having emphasized these numbers multiple times throughout the session.
The most significant absence for Chelsea is midfielder Cole Palmer. The England international is being rested to manage a groin problem that has troubled him throughout the campaign, with Maresca optimistic that a brief period of recovery will eliminate the possibility of surgical intervention later.
"I don't have any update at the moment," he commented regarding Palmer. "We have a meeting this week to see how it is."

Also missing for Maresca are the injured defensive trio of Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill, while Trevoh Chalobah remains suspended following his dismissal in the previous encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the middle of the park, Darío Essugo continues his lengthy absence while Andrey Santos has recently joined him in the treatment room. Forward Liam Delap is anticipated to return from his hamstring problem in November.
Expecting substantial contributions from academy products Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to help resolve the selection difficulties, Maresca stated: "I think it's evident that I have genuine faith in our young talents. Not only the young players we purchase, but also those emerging from our academy.
"Once more, we provided opportunities last season to Josh Acheampong, despite having senior players available on the bench. This demonstrates my confidence in young talent. The identical situation occurred with Ty. I have complete trust in all our available players. Currently we have four or five defenders unavailable. However, we will attempt to adjust and discover the appropriate solution for tomorrow."
