Chelsea return from the March international break to face Port Vale in an FA Cup quarterfinal clash on Saturday night.
Liam Rosenior will have been grateful for the break following a bruising few weeks in west London. Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League meekly by defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, and dropped further behind in the top-five race after a defeat at Everton.
The heat is intensifying on the relatively green manager, who has faced ridicule from former teammates and seen two of his most important players publicly question the club's choice to dismiss his predecessor, Enzo Maresca.
That said, it would take a monumental shock for Chelsea to fall this weekend. Although Port Vale defeated Sunderland 1–0 to advance to this stage, they sit rooted to the bottom of the third tier. Since toppling the Black Cats, Saturday's visitors have lost three of their last four league matches.
Last week, Wycombe Wanderers hammered them in a comprehensive 4–0 defeat.

Blues Avoid Almighty Upset

BlueCo are expected to stick with Rosenior through to the end of the campaign, even with Chelsea struggling prior to the break. The downtime has at least given the manager an opportunity to reset, and a convincing win over clearly outmatched opposition could be just the tonic needed ahead of a crucial run of Premier League games.
The FA Cup represents their sole shot at a trophy this season, having celebrated Conference League success the previous year. This is a supporter base that craves silverware regardless of form, and a loss on Saturday could spell the end for the current management setup.
Port Vale look set for relegation to League Two, and are appearing in only their second-ever FA Cup quarterfinal.
Prediction: Chelsea 3–0 Port Vale
Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs. Port Vale

Enzo Fernández has been left out by Rosenior following his public flirtation with a move to Madrid — both Real and Atlético have been mentioned as potential destinations — and Chelsea's vice-captain will also be absent for the upcoming fixture against Manchester City.
The Blues suffered two defensive injury blows before the international break, with Trevoh Chalobah sustaining an ankle problem during the home loss to Paris Saint-Germain that is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant portion of the remaining season.
Captain Reece James is managing a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the recent international fixtures, though the key fullback-turned-midfielder is expected to return to action later this month. Levi Colwill is also still unavailable, but Benoît Badiashile has recovered from illness and may feature in Rosenior's backline.
Estêvão is expected to reclaim his spot in the starting eleven after returning from injury before the break. Jamie Gittens experienced a setback in his hamstring recovery last month, but could be fit enough to feature this weekend.
Chelsea predicted lineup vs. Port Vale (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; Acheampong, Fofana, Badiashile, Cucurella; Lavia, Essugo; Neto, Estêvão, Garnacho; Delap.
Port Vale Predicted Lineup vs. Chelsea

The visitors are not thought to have any new injury worries, with long-term absentees George Byers and Ben Heneghan expected to be the only players unavailable at Stamford Bridge.
Jon Brady will almost certainly deploy a 5-4-1 defensive shape and look to hurt Chelsea on the counter. Fifth-round hero Ben Waine received a New Zealand call-up to replace Chris Wood at the end of March and netted in a 4–1 win against Chile.
Waine's extended travel schedule may restrict his involvement on Saturday, with a substitute appearance the most likely outcome.
Port Vale predicted lineup vs. Chelsea (4-3-3): Gauci; Gabriel, John, Humphreys, C. Hall, Headley; Shipley, Ojo, Garrity, Archer; G. Hall.
