Chelsea Get Crucial Lifeline as Two Key Players Race Back Amid Mounting Injury Nightmare

Chelsea have received a significant injury boost as summer arrivals Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha have both rejoined full team training.

The new additions have yet to make their competitive debuts for the Blues following injury-plagued beginnings to their time in west London. Palestra has been dealing with a quad injury picked up just before the Premier League season kicked off, while Emegha has been sidelined since July with a hamstring problem.

In encouraging news for Chelsea ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Oct. 10, both Palestra and Emegha have been photographed in training sessions by the club's social media staff.

Palestra, who featured prominently during preseason, will strengthen Alonso's options at wing back on his return, with the Italian capable of playing on either side. There have been frequent rotations in those positions this season, with Jorrel Hato, Pedro Neto, Pep Chavarría and Malo Gusto all having featured so far.

Emegha brings an additional element to Chelsea's attacking options, though the striker's playing time is far from assured this season given the presence of both João Pedro and Danny Welbeck—both of whom have enjoyed goalscoring starts to the campaign.

While Alonso will be encouraged by the return of two players, he remains anxious over injury updates on far more crucial members of his squad.

João Pedro missed Chelsea's 3–0 loss to Brentford just before the international break due to a knee injury, which also forced him to pull out of Brazil duty. Although he is expected to be fit against Bournemouth, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Chelsea skipper Reece James was also absent from the Brentford defeat through injury and was subsequently left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad. His fitness for the match against the Cherries remains uncertain.

The same uncertainty surrounds both Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo. The former pulled out of the England squad with a muscle problem—drawing criticism from Tuchel in the process—while the latter has managed just 14 competitive minutes this season due to a calf injury.

Jamie Gittens also joined the growing list of injury concerns during the international period after sustaining an ankle problem while on duty with England's Under-21s.

Chelsea have gone without a win in their last three Premier League outings, meaning Alonso will be eager to have several key players fit and available for Bournemouth's visit.
