Chelsea in Advanced Talks for Premier League Star Duo as Maresca Makes Clear His Top Priority

Chelsea have reportedly engaged in discussions regarding West Ham United's Mohammed Kudus and Brighton & Hove Albion's João Pedro, with manager Enzo Maresca being 'committed' to acquiring a new right-footed left winger.

The London club attempted to secure Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens prior to this summer's Club World Cup—the English player matches Maresca's specific requirements—but were unable to finalize a deal with the Bundesliga outfit. Despite maintaining their pursuit of Gittens, Chelsea have now started exploring other options.

In addition to Maresca's preferred type of acquisition, there's an ambition to bring in a new adaptable forward this summer—a requirement that has been intensified by the revelation of Mykhailo Mudryk's doping allegations, which could result in a suspension lasting up to four years.

The Guardian identifies Gittens as Chelsea's top choice, but club representatives have been investigating potential moves for backup options. An inquiry was submitted for Lyon's Malick Fofana, and now both Kudus and Pedro have entered Chelsea's consideration.

Chelsea have been presented with the chance to acquire Kudus, for whom an earlier bid was turned down, and negotiations between both clubs are continuing. No official offer has been made at this stage.

An exchange agreement is believed to be Chelsea's favored approach but West Ham are insisting on a cash-only transaction. Kudus possesses a release clause worth £85 million ($114.2 million) applicable for the initial 10 days of July, though he is unlikely to fetch such an elevated price.

Additionally, Chelsea have also conducted talks regarding Brighton's unsettled striker Pedro, who is estimated at approximately £60 million ($80.6 million).

Although Gittens remains the primary objective, Chelsea might proceed to secure additional offensive reinforcements this summer. Christopher Nkunku and João Félix are both available for departure, Marc Guiu could exit on loan and it is also indicated that Chelsea will consider proposals for Noni Madueke this summer.

Estêvão will join from Palmeiras after the Club World Cup, following which Chelsea could remain exceptionally busy in the transfer window.
