Chelsea Locked in Transfer War Over Star Loanee's Breakout Season
Chelsea sent 20-year-old defender Aarón Anselmino on loan to Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window, and in less than six months, the Bundesliga club is already eager to secure his services permanently.
Chelsea acquired Anselmino in 2024 following his standout performances in the youth academy and later the first team at his childhood club Boca Juniors. The young defender even featured for Enzo Maresca's squad during the 2025 Club World Cup before his temporary move to Dortmund.
The rationale behind the season-long loan arrangement was to provide Anselmino with regular match experience. As Maresca noted prior to his departure: "He's a talented player who can contribute to our team."
However, it appears Borussia Dortmund has no intention of allowing Anselmino to return to Chelsea without making a strong case for him to make Signal Iduna Park his long-term destination.

"I'll certainly need to contact them [Chelsea] in the coming days," stated Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl, according to Bundesliga. "We're hopeful that Aarón will remain with us naturally, as we maintain an excellent relationship with Chelsea."
The Argentine center-back has made a strong impression during his brief period in Germany. While a muscle injury hindered his early season progress at Dortmund, since returning to fitness in late October, he has gradually established himself as a crucial component for Nico Kovač's team in high-stakes matches.
Anselmino netted his maiden goal of the campaign in the 2–1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen this past weekend. After the contest, Kehl wasn't the only one praising the South American talent.
Anselmino's 'Warrior Mentality' Impressing Borussia Dortmund Teammates

Head coach Kovač and veteran midfielder Julian Brandt also expressed admiration for Anselmino's abilities.
"He competes with warrior mentality," Kovač explained. "When pressure mounts, he doesn't back down. He pushes forward. That's essential at this level. You need defenders who relish defending. This young man excels at it. I appreciate players like him, who approach their duties with commitment and intensity."
Brandt drew parallels between him and prominent Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, while noting that Anselmino brings unique qualities to the squad with his distinctive Argentine flair. "He's an exceptional person, with great character," the midfielder shared with Sport1. "He's truly valuable to our team. He's demonstrating that right now."
