Chelsea Open Door for Raheem Sterling Exit as Transfer Stance Shifts

Chelsea are eager to remove Raheem Sterling from their wage bill, but appear prepared to facilitate another temporary transfer for the winger before the summer transfer window closes.
The Blues likely hoped that Sterling would shine during his Arsenal loan stint last season, potentially making him an attractive prospect for clubs looking ahead to the 2025-26 campaign.
Unfortunately, the winger's temporary move to north London proved disappointing. The veteran player, who has displayed clear signs of regression since his move from Manchester City to Chelsea, failed to win over Mikel Arteta's confidence, managing just one goal across 28 appearances for the Gunners.
Consequently, he returned to Stamford Bridge, where it's been evident that Sterling doesn't feature in Enzo Maresca's future plans. Reports from The Telegraph indicate the 30-year-old is among eight players Chelsea seek to move on during the remaining weeks of the summer window, as they look to generate revenue despite investing over £200 million ($269.7 million) in new signings.
While both Sterling and Chelsea would favor a permanent departure, a loan arrangement appears to be the most viable option currently. Fulham are reportedly showing interest, with Sterling keen to stay within the Premier League. A London-based move would be preferable, though he might consider overseas opportunities if an attractive offer emerges.
The player's £300,000-per-week salary ($404,595) represents the primary obstacle for potential suitors, and Chelsea previously subsidized Sterling's wages during his Arsenal loan. They'll likely need to arrange a similar deal this summer, unless a club is prepared to acquire Sterling permanently.
The 30-year-old has been training separately from Maresca's main squad at Cobham, working instead with the "loan group". Chelsea are also seeking departures for Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and possibly Tyrique George before the transfer window concludes.
