Chelsea Seals Deal for Third Summer Forward as Transfer Spree Continues

Borussia Dortmund have officially announced that they have reached a deal to transfer winger Jamie Gittens to Chelsea.

Chelsea's £55 million ($75.1 million) offer for Gittens was approved at the end of last month, after Dortmund managed to persuade the London club to increase their initial bid that was rejected prior to the Club World Cup starting last month.

The final details were completed on Thursday, with Dortmund saying goodbye to Gittens later that day.

"Jamie Gittens (20), Borussia Dortmund's attacking player, is preparing to join English Premier League side Chelsea," the official statement announced. "All involved parties reached this agreement today in Fort Lauderdale, USA. The contractual terms are yet to be completed."

Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken commented: "Jamie Gittens's journey represents the perfect example of how we develop elite talent at BVB. We identified Jamie at a very young age, acquired him essentially without cost, steadily nurtured him through our youth system, and provided him with opportunities at the top level with our first team.

"Jamie has rewarded our faith in him through dedication, excellent performances and scoring goals. His move back to England, his home country, represents significant value for our club. We extend our best wishes to Jamie for his future career."

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl stated: "The negotiations with Chelsea were demanding, but we are ultimately satisfied that we can likely achieve our financial objectives and secure planning certainty.

"Jamie is an exceptional talent who has brought us tremendous joy. He is now ready to advance his career at Chelsea, and we offer him our sincere wishes for success."

Although Chelsea have included recent acquisition João Pedro in their Club World Cup roster, they are unable to register Gittens, as his participation for Dortmund earlier this summer prevents him from being registered with another club.
