Chelsea Set to Axe Three Squad Players in Major Clear-Out

Chelsea are close to finalizing deals that would see both Carney Chukwuemeka and Aarón Anselmino join Borussia Dortmund, with discussions also underway regarding Tyrique George's potential departure.

Continuing the strategically aggressive transfer strategy that has characterized BlueCo's tenure at Chelsea, the Blues have maintained their typical summer activity. Only Liverpool have exceeded the west London club's spending, while player departures have generated over £200 million ($268.9 million) in revenue.

This sum is expected to grow even larger thanks to Borussia Dortmund's involvement.

The German club are close to securing Chukwuemeka on a permanent basis after his successful loan stint in the latter half of the 2024–25 season, according to Sky Germany. Dortmund are also anticipated to acquire Anselmino on loan, with both transactions totaling €25 million (£21.6 million, $29.2 million) for the club.

Chelsea acquired Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for an initial €18 million fee three years ago. Physical setbacks hindered what appeared to be a promising trajectory in London under Mauricio Pochettino, before Enzo Maresca quickly relegated the adaptable midfielder to the periphery of his plans.

Anselmino hasn't even experienced the benefit of operating on those peripheral margins. The 20-year-old defender who joined Chelsea permanently in January after a €16.5 million deal with Boca Juniors was finalized six months prior has accumulated just two minutes of playing time for his current club.

Tyrique George is one year Anselmino's junior but has managed to secure significantly more brief appearances. The youth product netted three times and recorded five assists in 26 matches last season. George's concern, however, centers on whether similar opportunities will present themselves this campaign.

With the influx of new offensive signings arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer, reports suggested George was determined to secure a summer move to guarantee consistent playing time.

German sides RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach were initially linked with the 19-year-old, and now Roma have submitted an inquiry, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian club reportedly consider George a viable backup option to Jadon Sancho, who seems reluctant to relocate to Rome. Whether the historic city holds greater appeal for George is uncertain, but he is anticipated to join Chukwuemeka and Anselmino in departing through Stamford Bridge's busy exit doors.
