Chelsea Set to Cash In: Christopher Nkunku's Permanent Exit Gains Momentum

Chelsea appear poised to finally move Christopher Nkunku on after fresh reports indicate a transfer fee arrangement with AC Milan has been finalized.
Nkunku has failed to live up to expectations since his arrival at Chelsea from RB Leipzig, where he was regarded as one of Europe's most lethal forwards, accumulating 87 goals and assists combined during the 2021–22 and 2022–23 campaigns. Persistent injury setbacks and fierce competition for minutes restricted him to just 23 goal contributions across two seasons with the London club.
Leipzig have been strongly connected with bringing him back, while Bayern Munich represent the other major Bundesliga club reportedly interested. Nevertheless, Milan have recently entered the picture. The Italian giants had previously stepped back from pursuing Manchester United's Rasmus Højlund, but now seem close to securing Nkunku's signature. Their pursuit of Victor Boniface also collapsed.
The Athletic reports that a comprehensive deal valued at up to €42 million (£36.2 million) for Nkunku has been struck, featuring a future sale percentage should Milan eventually sell the French international. Individual contract terms are reportedly finalized, with the player receiving clearance to undergo his medical examination.

Offloading Nkunku will generate additional funds for Chelsea and support their ongoing efforts to acquire players like Alejandro Garnacho and Fermín López.
A move for Garnacho appears increasingly probable before Monday's transfer window closure following reports suggesting a fee compromise with Manchester United is now anticipated.
The pursuit of López seems more speculative but would strengthen squad depth in the attacking midfielder position, especially with Nkunku's imminent departure. The 22-year-old has established himself as a key figure for Barcelona following his unexpected first-team emergence in 2023, though the opportunity to generate revenue could prove tempting for the Catalan club, considering the impact on pending player registrations.
