Chelsea Star Defender Reveals Contract Extension is 'Already Sealed'

While awaiting formal confirmation, Marc Cucurella has disclosed that he has already put pen to paper on a fresh contract extension that will keep him at Chelsea.

After Chelsea's commanding 5–1 triumph over West Ham United, Cucurella spoke with Diario AS and addressed questions about a potential contract renewal.

"Yes, it's completed, we've already finalized it," Cucurella disclosed. "I'm extremely pleased. The club has demonstrated faith in me, they've made that clear and I'm delighted to be part of this team. Hopefully this will be an outstanding year."

Announcing this news following Chelsea's first Premier League victory of the campaign in such dominant style perfectly caps off the display. Cucurella's existing deal was set to run until summer 2028. What remains to be determined is the duration of his new agreement with the Blues.

The ex-Brighton fullback arrived at the club during summer 2022 in the initial transfer window under Chelsea's new ownership structure. Cucurella faced challenges maintaining form during his opening two campaigns at Stamford Bridge, but his trajectory changed dramatically following an outstanding showing in Spain's triumphant 2024 European Championship campaign.

From that point forward, he's established himself as a cornerstone of Enzo Maresca's team. He topped the Blues' appearance chart with 48 matches last season, establishing himself as a reliable defensive presence while contributing offensively, concluding the campaign with seven goals and four assists—including a crucial winner against Manchester United late in the season that secured Chelsea's Champions League qualification.

The Blues finalized the signing of talented young defender Jorrel Hato during the summer window. With both Hato and Cucurella secured, Chelsea's left side appears well-stocked for the foreseeable future.

As Chelsea's youthful roster continues developing and with the recently captured Club World Cup and Conference League silverware now displayed in the club's trophy room, Cucurella is optimistic about future prospects.

"We're heading in the correct direction, but we need to maintain this momentum, staying focused, because it's a lengthy campaign and we can accomplish significant objectives."
