Chelsea Star Speaks Out After Speeding Conviction Near Man Utd Training Ground Left Him Red-Faced

The legal team representing Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has stated that their client feels "embarrassed" after being caught speeding near Manchester United's training facility during the summer transfer window.

The Argentine international admitted to driving at 50mph in a 40mph zone on the afternoon of August 26, 2025. Garnacho was found to have committed the violation on Carrington Lane, departing Manchester United's training complex just days before completing his move to Chelsea.

At the time of the incident, Garnacho had been frozen out at United after being omitted from the club's opening two Premier League matches following manager Ruben Amorim's decision to make him available for transfer. Just four days later, he signed a seven-year deal at Chelsea in a transfer valued at up to $54 million (£40 million).

"Mr Garnacho accepts that he committed the offence of exceeding the speed limit and has pleaded guilty to the offence," the player's legal representatives at JMW Solicitors said in a statement, as cited by BBC.

"Mr Garnacho explains this was an oversight on his part and apologises for the offence. Our client is embarrassed that he is currently in this position and apologises to the Court for the excess speed offence."

It speaks volumes that Garnacho's speeding conviction has arguably been the most talked-about moment of his first seven months as a Chelsea player.

Despite being raised in Madrid by a Spanish father and Argentine mother, the former Manchester United academy product always harbored a fondness for the Blues. "I really liked watching Chelsea when I was younger," Garnacho recalled after completing his transfer to Stamford Bridge in August.

"I loved Eden Hazard. Eden was one of my idols and a big reason why I watched and supported Chelsea a bit when I was younger. He was such an incredible player, playing in the same position that I wanted to, coming inside, scoring goals—he was crazy good."

Garnacho has so far fallen well short of matching Hazard's influence in west London. Over his 20 Premier League outings this season, the left winger has managed just a single goal. He is currently being outscored by right back Malo Gusto, who had never netted in senior football before finding the net against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in November.

Simply earning a place in the starting lineup has been a significant hurdle for Garnacho so far. Unfortunately for the pacey attacker, his profile overlaps considerably with several Chelsea teammates, as he battles the likes of Jamie Gittens, Estêvão, and Pedro Neto for just two positions.
