Chelsea Starlet Nears Summer Departure After 'Positive Talks' Heat Up

Chelsea's young talent Tyrique George has engaged in "encouraging discussions" with Roma regarding a potential transfer to the Italian club that appears increasingly probable before the window closes.

The London club has once again been highly active in the transfer market this summer, continuously pursuing both new signings and player departures since the window began. While the acquisition of multiple attacking players has thrilled Chelsea fans, it has limited opportunities for academy product George to progress.

The 19-year-old wide player, who impressed during Chelsea's Europa Conference League campaign last term, finds himself behind recent additions Jamie Gittens and Estêvão in the squad hierarchy, leading the Blues to consider allowing his permanent departure.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma representatives met with George's agents in London on Tuesday, with the attacker receiving authorization to complete a permanent switch to the Serie A outfit—though Chelsea would retain a "substantial sell-on percentage."

BBC Sport reports that approximately £25 million ($33.7 million) could be sufficient for Roma to complete the signing, though it remains uncertain whether the Italian side will commit such funds for his acquisition.

George featured in 26 matches for Chelsea during the previous campaign as he established himself in the senior squad, contributing three goals and five assists while making a notable impression.

Roma had previously pursued former Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, but negotiations broke down over salary arrangements.

Gian Piero Gasperini's team is also monitoring Liverpool's Kostas Tsimikas after already securing loan deals for Leon Bailey and Evan Ferguson from Premier League clubs this summer.
