Chelsea Stars Rally Together to Support Injured Diogo Jota with Club World Cup Winnings

Chelsea are preparing to contribute funds from their recent FIFA Club World Cup earnings to support the family of deceased Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his sibling, André Silva, according to reports.

The two players lost their lives tragically in early last month following a vehicle collision in northern Spain, with memorial tributes expected to continue throughout England as the new Premier League campaign kicks off this weekend.

Liverpool have previously committed to supporting the bereaved family, planning to honor the final two years remaining on Jota's contract. The club is also believed to be considering covering educational expenses for his three young children in the years ahead as an additional supportive measure.

However, the Merseyside club is not the only one offering financial support. According to The Athletic, Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make a contribution to the family using money from their Club World Cup prize earnings.

Although the $114.6 million (£84.4 million) prize money from securing the tournament goes to the club, Chelsea have allocated £11.4 million for evenly distributed player bonuses. The Jota contribution will be sourced from this fund, with agreement between the club and squad members that it represents an equal portion.

The donation is believed to potentially exceed $500,000 (£367,953) before tax deductions.

During Premier League matches scheduled from Friday evening—when Liverpool kick off their title defense against Bournemouth—through Sunday afternoon, a period of silence will be held in remembrance and honor of the brothers. Clubs will display black armbands and commemorative messages and imagery will appear on stadium screens. Beyond Liverpool, Jota's previous team, Wolverhampton Wanderers, have organized their own special commemorations, including a tifo display at Molineux.
