Following a forgettable first season in west London, Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho is reportedly in advanced discussions with Aston Villa over a season-long loan arrangement.

New manager Xabi Alonso has made it evident that the Argentine does not feature in his plans for the 2026–27 campaign, leaving the door open for Garnacho to seek a move this summer. Recent reports suggested AS Roma had lodged a formal offer for the 22-year-old, but the Serie A outfit now faces competition from Unai Emery's squad.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa have put forward a proposal to take Garnacho to Villa Park on loan next season, with a conditional purchase obligation attached. The precise terms and financial details of the offer are yet to be finalised.

Fabrizio Romano reports that talks between the club and player are continuing, with Emery having already given the green light on Garnacho as a transfer target for the reigning Europa League holders. The manager had previously shown interest in the winger last summer when he became available following his departure from Manchester United, only to miss out to Chelsea.

The Blues have been more preoccupied with offloading players than recruiting impact signings following a dismal 2025–26 season, which concluded without even a Conference League berth.

Garnacho was far too erratic and ineffective, particularly across his 24 Premier League appearances, to merit serious consideration from Alonso. It comes as little shock that the new boss has no room for the pacey forward in his plans to revive a struggling side.

Instead, Garnacho now has the chance to restore his reputation under a manager who has long been an admirer of his abilities, stretching back to the 22-year-old's time at Old Trafford. He also gains the opportunity to compete in Champions League football next season — something no Chelsea player can currently look forward to.

The route to regular game time is fairly straightforward at Aston Villa. The Villans are in the market for a new wide option and will likely feel even more motivated to maximise Garnacho's potential after reported primary target Crysencio Summerville allegedly agreed a high-profile deal with Al Hilal.
