Xabi Alonso faces his former club Real Sociedad in Chelsea's last preseason tune-up match.

The ex-Basque midfielder came up through La Real's academy and made 124 outings for the club where he would also begin his managerial journey. Alonso chose to hone his coaching skills with Real Sociedad's reserve side before departing for Bayer Leverkusen in 2022.

Following a disappointing stint at Real Madrid, Alonso has landed in west London, where his competitive tenure as Chelsea manager will kick off on Monday, Aug. 24 with a local derby against Fulham. Prior to that, Alonso and the Blues must contend with the current Copa del Rey champions.
