Chelsea's Defender Hunt Explodes with Shocking Last-Minute Developments Before Transfer Deadline
Chelsea are currently considering bringing back centre-back Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg, though a report has highlighted a possible obstacle the Blues must overcome.
Sarr has played a key role under Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg, and Fabrice Hawkins reports that the Blues boss desires an instant reunion at Stamford Bridge. The strategy would involve him replacing Aarón Anselmino, whose loan with Borussia Dortmund was controversially cut short earlier this window.
However, Anselmino is reluctant to make this switch, and Strasbourg are unwilling to release Sarr without securing a quality replacement, leaving Chelsea anxious about their defensive options as Deadline Day approaches.

It was on Jan. 15 when reports surfaced that Chelsea were prepared to target a new centre-back this winter. More than two weeks have passed, yet the situation remains unchanged.
Promising Rennes prospect Jérémy Jacquet remains the top priority, but the French club has demonstrated no desire to sanction a mid-season transfer and are demanding up to €70 million (£60.7 million, $83.2 million) to consider his departure.
This has led Chelsea to explore an arrangement that would keep Jacquet at Rennes until summer. The issue with this approach, though, is that such a deal is believed to attract interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich as well.
The choice to bring back Anselmino from a successful loan at Dortmund puzzled all parties involved, but the Argentine appeared set for an important role under Rosenior. However, this no longer seems to be the situation.
It appears Chelsea would prefer to bring Rosenior and Sarr back together, but despite BlueCo owning both clubs, simply switching the loan arrangements isn't straightforward. Strasbourg's management wants to retain Sarr, whose departure would create additional tension among supporters already angry about their club's perceived role as a "feeder team" for Chelsea.
Time is running short for Chelsea, who face the possibility of failing to complete any of their desired transfers before Monday's deadline.
Discussions with Jacquet are expected to become even more challenging at this advanced stage of the window, considering Rennes' position centers on their unwillingness to weaken their squad. The opportunity for Rennes to secure a replacement for the 20-year-old is diminishing, and they are certainly aware of this reality.
Even if a summer agreement can be arranged in advance, this doesn't solve Chelsea's immediate problem, which is securing a new centre-back for the remaining six months.
Anselmino could remain at the club, but the level of confidence Chelsea or Rosenior have in the young Argentine remains uncertain, while Anselmino's own perspective on his future must be considered after he appeared visibly distressed by his unexpected exit from Dortmund.
Whatever unfolds in the upcoming days, Sarr will return to Chelsea this summer when his loan concludes. The Blues will also see Levi Colwill return from an ACL injury before next season begins—Rosenior has even hinted the youngster might feature again this campaign—with Jacquet's potential signing only adding to the defensive congestion.
