Chelsea's Top Managerial Target Reveals He's Given Verbal Commitment to Stamford Bridge Move

Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior has announced his departure from the French club, revealing he has reached terms to succeed Enzo Maresca as Chelsea's new manager.

Maresca left Chelsea on January 1st following tensions with the club's leadership, prompting the Blues to quickly identify Rosenior as their preferred candidate after his outstanding 18-month tenure with their affiliated French outfit.

When reports first surfaced, Rosenior publicly stated uncertainty about his future plans, but he later traveled to London for discussions with Chelsea officials, which he has now confirmed concluded successfully.

"At that point on Saturday evening, I was uncertain about what would unfold," he explained during a Strasbourg media briefing on Tuesday morning. "Since then, I received authorization to negotiate with what is genuinely one of the world's premier football institutions, the current Club World Cup holders. Being linked with such a prestigious organization is truly an honor for me.

"Today, it appears I will become the next head coach of that football club."

While reflecting on what he described as the "finest 18 months" of his coaching journey, Rosenior emphasized his affection for Strasbourg while asking disappointed supporters to recognize the scale difference between the two BlueCo-owned teams.

"This isn't solely about Chelsea. I've received approaches from numerous clubs, including Champions League participants, which I've always discussed transparently with Mark [Keller, club president] and our ownership," he elaborated. "However, there are pivotal moments when you face decisions you simply cannot refuse. This chance represents something I must accept at this stage of my career for multiple reasons.

"It's an extraordinary opportunity with an exceptional club that holds the Club World Cup title, featuring a remarkable squad and passionate supporters. Additionally, it allows me to return home to my family. Being separated from my children has been difficult, and I want to ensure this sacrifice leads to meaningful achievements here."

'Agreement to Be Finalized Within Hours'

Rosenior made the journey back to Strasbourg following his Chelsea talks to demonstrate respect for the French club and personally address those questioning his departure.

After completing this gesture, the former Hull City and Derby County boss anticipates finalizing his move to Stamford Bridge very soon.

"The contract isn't signed yet," he clarified. "I've reached a verbal understanding with Chelsea. All terms are settled, and it should be completed within the coming hours.

"I'm thrilled about what lies ahead. I must be honest, I've dedicated my entire career to becoming a coach. Now, being offered this chance to lead a world-class football institution fulfills a lifelong ambition.

"I'll be boarding a flight after this conference. Hopefully, all documentation will be finalized so I can meet my new players, which I'm eagerly anticipating."

Chelsea are scheduled to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday, with caretaker manager Calum McFarlane, who will address the press later on Tuesday, likely to oversee that match.
