Christian Pulisic Shakes Up AC Milan Contract Talks With Bold New Demands

Christian Pulisic Shakes Up AC Milan Contract Talks With Bold New Demands

After an eighteen-month ordeal, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan are reportedly edging closer to a deal that would extend his contract until 2031.

Pulisic, whose current agreement with the Rossoneri runs out at the end of this season, appeared on the verge of signing an extension at San Siro back in March 2025. However, what seemed like promising negotiations dragged on indefinitely without a new deal being finalized.

A significant dip in performance and a forgettable, injury-plagued World Cup did little to strengthen Pulisic's hand at the bargaining table. It began to look as though the American's chapter at Milan might be drawing to a close, particularly after new head coach Ruben Amorim left him on the bench for the club's opening three fixtures of the 2026–27 campaign.

Despite Pulisic's recent struggles, Milan remain committed to the 28-year-old. Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport report that the club "would like" the attacker to sign an extension running through 2031.

The Rossoneri are keen to "retain" their key player "well beyond" his existing contract, which already includes an option to add one more season.

New 'Demands' Could Stall Progress Yet Again

Despite Milan's eagerness to tie Pulisic down, talks could hit another wall. The report suggests the U.S. men's national team star has revised his "demands" this time around.

During the 2025 negotiations, Milan put forward an offer of €5 million ($5.6 million) net per year. The two sides "came close to a handshake" with that figure on the table.

Now, a year later, Pulisic is reportedly "making higher demands" as his current deal approaches its end. The exact figure he has in mind remains unclear, but it may well explain why contract discussions have continued for 19 months without resolution.

Pulisic can point to his earlier performances if he is indeed pushing for a bigger salary. In his first two seasons at Milan, he racked up 53 goal contributions across all competitions and played a key role in the club's Italian Super Cup victory in January 2025.

However, his recent struggles give Milan plenty of leverage to push back.

A great deal went wrong for Pulisic last season. The 28-year-old began 2025–26 in impressive fashion, contributing 10 goals and two assists in the first half of the campaign despite dealing with fitness issues. Then 2026 arrived and he looked like a completely different player.

Pulisic failed to find the net in the following five months, dropping out of Milan's starting lineup. His only contributions in 2026 amounted to three assists.

The World Cup seemed like the ideal stage for a return to form, but Pulisic was largely invisible on home turf, managing just one assist across four appearances. A microfracture in his lower leg only compounded his difficulties.

Then came Amorim, who took charge of Milan following his departure from Manchester United, and the Portuguese manager appeared reluctant to hand Pulisic any significant playing time. Adding to his troubles, Mauricio Pochettino left him out of the USMNT squad for the fall friendlies, making the outlook for Pulisic appear increasingly grim.

He has since worked his way back into Amorim's plans and finally scored for the Rossoneri for the first time since December 2025. But he will need to prove it was no fluke if he hopes to convince Milan to meet his reportedly elevated demands following such a difficult stretch for both club and country.
