As time goes on, Christian Pulisic inches closer to the end of his contract with AC Milan, yet reports indicate no discussions regarding a potential extension have taken place with the Italian club.
Pulisic's existing contract runs through the end of the 2026–27 campaign. The agreement includes a club option for Milan to extend it by one additional year, which would keep the American at San Siro through June 2028.
The situation looks precarious on the surface, given Pulisic's poor finish to 2025–26 and sluggish start to the current season. Concerns grew louder when The Athletic revealed that Milan have yet to open contract renewal talks with the 28-year-old.
Nevertheless, the Rossoneri's "intention" is to retain Pulisic beyond his current deal, according to the report. The club reportedly did not "entertain" advances from MLS outfit New York City FC this summer, as they envision the winger's future remaining at Milan.

Things Could Develop Quickly for Pulisic
The absence of contract talks could change rapidly if Pulisic re-establishes himself as a key figure at Milan. The U.S. men's national team standout racked up 53 goal contributions across his first two seasons with the club before experiencing a sharp dip in form last campaign.
Pulisic failed to score throughout 2026 and ultimately lost his starting spot. Persistent fitness issues compounded his struggles, as did a disappointing World Cup this summer, during which he picked up yet another injury.
New Milan manager Ruben Amorim left him on the bench for the club's opening three fixtures this season, but has since handed Pulisic minutes across the following three matches. The forward contributed a goal and an assist during that stretch, aided in part by Amorim relaxing his typically strict tactical setup.

Should Pulisic hold onto his rediscovered starting role and continue to contribute, he places himself in a strong position to negotiate a contract extension beyond his current deal in Milan.

It's difficult to picture Milan rushing to hand Pulisic a long-term deal with improved wages if he once again goes extended stretches without finding the net.

Any conversation about Pulisic inevitably circles back to the USMNT. He was a surprising omission from Mauricio Pochettino's 28-man squad for autumn friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada.
The Argentine coach made his intentions clear, stating he wants to assess the next wave of talent in the lead-up to the 2030 World Cup. For what may be the first time in his career, Pulisic is no longer considered an automatic selection for the national team.
A high-profile new contract from Milan would serve as a strong signal to help Pulisic work his way back into Pochettino's plans. It would go hand in hand with a return to peak form, which would undoubtedly capture the manager's attention.
Ultimately, Pulisic at his very best is what benefits the USMNT most. There is certainly enough talent to compensate in his absence, but the team simply cannot compete with top European sides without their best player performing — as the World Cup round of 16 made abundantly clear.
