Christian Pulisic's Shocking USMNT Snub Despite AC Milan Comeback Sparks Controversy

Christian Pulisic has returned to action for AC Milan, though he will be absent from the U.S. men's national team roster for November's international matches against Paraguay and Uruguay.

The American star made his comeback from injury on Saturday in Serie A play, entering as a substitute in the 70th minute as Milan secured a 2–2 tie during their away match at Parma. This marked Pulisic's first Serie A appearance since a goalless stalemate with Juventus on Oct. 5, ending a four-match layoff.

The 27-year-old sustained a hamstring problem following a harsh tackle from Australia's Jason Gerria while on duty with the USMNT on Oct. 15. The United States managed a 2–1 victory, but Pulisic was subsequently sidelined with the injury.

Although he made his anticipated comeback at club level over the weekend, the winger will remain away from USMNT duty until the next international break in March at the earliest. Mauricio Pochettino honored Milan's reported appeal to exclude the star player from his November roster, allowing Pulisic additional time to fully heal from his injury.

This season for Milan, Pulisic has netted four times in Serie A and scored six goals in all competitions.

Pochettino: USMNT Wants to Avoid 'Risk' With Pulisic

During his 20-minute cameo against Parma, Pulisic successfully completed all 10 of his pass attempts, sent a shot wide from inside the penalty box, and set up two scoring opportunities in his team's frustrating stalemate.

However, Pochettino and the USMNT are being cautious not to hurry Pulisic's return to international competition.

"It makes sense not to select a player who might be returning from a problem," Pochettino explained. "It gives him the chance to recover completely, be at full strength and be prepared to perform after international duty with his club.

"That's logical thinking. We don't put players at risk."

Additional important members of Pochettino's squad, including Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards, were also omitted from the team to focus on their club circumstances.

These players will concentrate on their rehabilitation while the Stars and Stripes face Paraguay and Uruguay during the November international period. Supporters won't see Pulisic return to Milan action until Nov. 23, when the Italian powerhouse meets city rivals Inter Milan.
