Christos Tzolis: Why Arsenal Must Unleash Club Brugge's Electrifying Star

Arsenal are edging closer to their first addition in a planned overhaul of their attacking options this summer, looking toward one of Europe's second-tier leagues for new talent.

Christos Tzolis may not yet be a widely recognized name, but that hasn't stopped the Premier League champions from reaching a $46 million (€40 million, £34 million) agreement with Club Brugge to secure his services.

Despite lifting the title, Arsenal's attack still requires bolstering to ensure Mikel Arteta doesn't have to lean so heavily on his solid defensive unit next season. The addition of Tzolis brings both quality and options, particularly following Leandro Trossard's recent exit to Beşiktaş.

While he may not be Arsenal's most high-profile signing of what promises to be a busy summer, the 24-year-old represents a shrewd acquisition with the potential to thrive in north London. So what can fans expect from the Greek international?

What Type of Player Is Tzolis?

Fortunately for Arsenal, Tzolis already carries some Premier League experience. Having previously been at Norwich City between 2021 and 2023, he made 14 appearances in England's top division, though he struggled to leave a significant mark during his younger years.

A subsequent move to Fortuna Düsseldorf reignited his career, and a transfer to Club Brugge in 2024 gave him the platform to demonstrate his sharpness in front of goal and creative instincts.

Over the past two seasons, Tzolis has accumulated an impressive 86 goal involvements across all competitions. That figure has admittedly been aided by the standard of Belgium's Pro League, but the versatile wide player has still contributed a combined 11 goals and assists in the Champions League (including qualifying rounds).

Tzolis, as any winger must be, is also notably fast. In European competition last season, he recorded a top speed of 20.5 mph, matching Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and placing him fractionally ahead of pace merchants such as Alphonso Davies, Luis Díaz, and Raphinha.

Although Tzolis favors the left flank, where he can cut inside onto his stronger right foot, the emerging talent is equally capable of performing on the right side. He serves as a natural like-for-like replacement for Trossard and will compete with Gabriel Martinelli for a place in the starting lineup going forward.

Tzolis typically completes around one in every two dribble attempts, relying on his low center of gravity and explosive pace to get past opposing fullbacks. Once he beats his man, he has the ability to either finish himself or set up a teammate. No player could match his tally of 23 assists, 135 chances created, and 25 big chances fashioned in Belgium last season.

Without the ball, Tzolis puts in a solid shift. He led Club Brugge in the 2025–26 Pro League for final-third recoveries per 90 minutes (0.8) and averaged 2.2 defensive contributions per game — with Arteta likely to demand even greater defensive output from his new signing next term.

What Does Tzolis Signing Mean for Arsenal's Summer Business?

Arsenal have no intention of halting their transfer activity with Tzolis. News of their agreement with Club Brugge has reinforced their commitment to further attacking additions, with the Gunners keen to bring in more forwards as Arteta looks to establish a lasting dynasty.

Morgan Rogers appears to be their top priority, with the Aston Villa and England winger having established himself as one of the Premier League's standout attacking midfielders under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery. However, with a potential asking price of $175 million (£130 million), securing his signature will not come easily.

Arsenal are also reportedly in the market for another dedicated wide player and are among the clubs interested in Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola. Another highly valued young talent, a deal for the Frenchman may only become feasible if Martinelli is sold first.

In the central attacking area, the Gunners continue to pursue Atlético Madrid's Julián Alvarez. Although the Argentine striker is said to prefer a move to Barcelona, Arsenal remain a credible option in the race for his signature.

How Arsenal Could Line Up With Tzolis

Whether Tzolis becomes a regular starter next season will largely depend on Arsenal's remaining transfer activity. The arrivals of Rogers, who can operate wide, or Barcola would reduce his chances of starting, while Martinelli's future will also play a role in determining his position in the squad hierarchy.
