Liverpool seem to have adopted a policy of holding onto their current squad during the closing hours of the transfer window.
Having turned down Manchester City's staggering bid for Cody Gakpo, the club is believed to have taken the same approach regarding promising academy talent Trey Nyoni.
Nottingham Forest came forward with a package valued at $40.6 million (£30 million) for the 19-year-old midfielder, only to be turned away, according to The Athletic. Liverpool have already sold Curtis Jones to Serie A champions Inter and are set to send Harvey Elliott out on loan to Valencia.
Andoni Iraola was comfortable allowing those two midfielders to depart due to his confidence in Nyoni. "I'm very happy with Trey," the Basque manager said during the summer.
"He has been excellent in preseason, not just in matches — even in training sessions he's up against top-level players and holding his own. I have no doubts about Trey. He will be a real asset for us this season, and hopefully he plays plenty and delivers the quality I see from him every day in training."

Following Bradley Barcola's high-profile signing, it had seemed as if Gakpo was heading to Manchester City. The player had given his approval to the unexpected transfer, and Enzo Maresca's side even tabled an offer of $108.4 million (£80 million). However, as first reported by The Athletic, that proposal was turned down by the Reds.
Barcola strengthens Liverpool's attacking options, but Iraola had been pursuing multiple forward additions throughout the summer. Rather than the Frenchman's arrival being the deciding factor, Gakpo's future depended on securing a second signing, ideally someone capable of playing on the right flank.
Liverpool had been connected with the A23 duo of Crystal Palace's Ismaïla Sarr and Brighton & Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh. RMC Sport's Fabrice Hawkins reported that Sarr was determined to join Anfield "at all costs," but Liverpool were simply unwilling to meet Palace's valuation. A similar situation arose at Brighton, with both wingers believed to have been priced above $95 million.

Much like Arne Slot before him, Iraola does not appear to view Elliott as sufficient cover. The England U-21 international endured a difficult loan stint at Aston Villa last season and has now sought a fresh start at La Liga club Valencia.
Elliott described the mid-table club as "an incredible club."
"I'm really grateful for this opportunity. I'm going to perform as well as I possibly can here, and I know the club's history. It demands a lot of hard work, and I'm going to give everything I have for Valencia. It all moved quite fast and I was ready when the call came.
"It's just about making sure I'm prepared to come here and play — and I am. I'm here now and I'm really looking forward to it.
"The goal is to get Valencia back into European football. It is an incredible club and I want to do the very best I can for them. I believe that with this squad, we can achieve that, but it's going to be a tough season. I'll play anywhere — I'm just happy to be playing football. But as a No. 10, that's where I feel I'm most effective."
