Cole Palmer Shares Trump's Surprising Words After Club World Cup Final Victory

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has disclosed the words that United States president Donald Trump spoke to him following last Sunday's FIFA Club World Cup final.

The Blues entered the final at MetLife Stadium as heavy underdogs, but Palmer led them to an impressive 3–0 triumph over European titleholders Paris Saint-Germain. The 23-year-old netted twice and set up João Pedro's third goal as Chelsea claimed the championship.

Nevertheless, the attacking midfielder found himself puzzled by Trump's involvement during the Club World Cup trophy ceremony in the U.S. While Trump presented Palmer with the award for being the tournament's top performer, the 79-year-old was supposed to give Chelsea their trophy before departing the stage during their celebration, but instead chose to remain on the platform.

Following the match, Palmer acknowledged: "I was aware he would be present, but I had no idea he would be on the platform when we raised the trophy. I was somewhat bewildered, indeed."

He wasn't alone in being surprised, as club captain Reece James admitted: "They informed me that he would present the trophy and then leave the stage, and I expected him to depart the stage, but he chose to remain."

Palmer has now disclosed precisely what Trump told him during Chelsea's trophy celebration and his reaction.

"When he presented me with the award, he mentioned his son is my greatest supporter." Palmer shared with the Mail during a visit to St Kitts & Nevis. "I cannot recall my exact response. I believe I said 'Thank you' or similar."

Along with his Chelsea colleagues, Palmer enjoys three weeks of break before returning to pre-season preparation during the week starting August 4. He must maximize this essential rest period before 2025–26, as the Blues face their opening Premier League match against Crystal Palace on August 17.
