Cole Palmer's Shocking Absence: What's Keeping Chelsea's Star Out of Liverpool Clash?
Chelsea confront their biggest challenge on Saturday afternoon as they host defending Premier League champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues, who arrive at this fixture struggling with inconsistent form following three losses in their last five outings, are eager to enter October's international break on a positive note, though this depends entirely on their performance against Liverpool.
While the Reds are also experiencing underwhelming form, Chelsea remains aware of the magnitude of their challenge. Having to face Arne Slot's talent-laden squad without their key player Cole Palmer will only heighten any anxiety surrounding this encounter.
But what's behind Palmer's absence for Chelsea's showdown with Liverpool?
Why Cole Palmer Will Miss Liverpool Visit

Palmer will be unavailable for Chelsea's Saturday squad due to a persistent groin problem that has limited him to only four appearances for club and country this season. He was sidelined for encounters against West Ham United and Fulham earlier in the campaign and experienced another injury flare-up during the recent loss to Manchester United.
The attacking midfielder began Chelsea's 10-man defeat at Old Trafford but managed only 21 minutes before requiring substitution. He has remained out of action since, missing fixtures against Lincoln City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Benfica.
Regrettably for the Blues, Liverpool's arrival comes too early for Palmer's return.
When Will Cole Palmer Return From Injury?
Enzo Maresca has already stated that Palmer won't rejoin the first-team until following the October international break. He's been excluded from Thomas Tuchel's England roster while continuing his rehabilitation, with no specific return date established.
Addressing the media before the Liverpool fixture, Maresca provided a cautious update when asked about Palmer's condition.
"I don't have any update at the moment [on Palmer]. We have a meeting this week to see how he is and we will then decide [whether he can return after the international break]," commented the Italian.
Maresca has disclosed he will be missing "seven or eight players" due to injuries and suspension for the Liverpool match. Palmer joins players like Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Andrey Santos and Liam Delap in the medical room, while Trevoh Chalobah is currently serving a domestic ban.
