Following a storied European career with Real Madrid and Manchester United, Casemiro is now pulling on Inter Miami's pink jersey to reunite with former La Liga adversary Lionel Messi.
The midfielder, who departed Old Trafford as a free agent this summer, has signed a contract with the Herons running through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to extend until June 2029. Casemiro takes on the number five shirt he wears for Brazil, a number previously worn in south Florida by Sergio Busquets.
The acquisition is the latest high-profile addition to the Herons, who claimed their first MLS Cup last season. While Busquets and Jordi Alba hung up their boots after that crowning moment, Messi and Rodrigo De Paul remain at the heart of the club's title defense.
Bringing in a player of Casemiro's caliber to Guillermo Hoyos's roster re-establishes Inter Miami as one of the frontrunners for the 2026 MLS Cup, following a turbulent start to the campaign that saw former head coach Javier Mascherano part ways with the club.
The move also amplifies the spotlight on south Florida even further, with supporters eagerly anticipating Casemiro's first appearance in MLS.

Inter Miami have yet to confirm a debut date for Casemiro, though it is widely expected that the midfielder will not feature when the Herons return to action against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night.
Like Messi and De Paul, Casemiro participated in the 2026 World Cup this summer and is entitled to a 21-day recovery window following the tournament. The two Argentines advanced all the way to the final, while Casemiro and Brazil were eliminated in the round of 16 on June 5.
Casemiro has therefore already enjoyed more than two weeks of rest and is anticipated to feature for Inter Miami ahead of Messi and De Paul's return. With one additional week of recovery, the former Real Madrid man would likely miss the matches against the Fire and CF Montréal on Saturday.
Hoyos's side then face Columbus Crew at Nu Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 1 — a fixture that presents an ideal opportunity for Casemiro to make his debut for his new club, just before the league pauses again for the Leagues Cup.
If Casemiro prefers additional time to settle in at Inter Miami, he could alternatively make his first appearance against either Atlético de San Luis on Aug. 5 or Monterrey on Aug. 8.
