Cristiano Ronaldo Skips Mexico and USMNT Clashes While Making Bold World Cup Forecast
Cristiano Ronaldo has been excluded from Portugal's squad for the March international break before friendlies against Mexico and the United States later this month, but there is "no risk" of the iconic striker missing this summer's World Cup.
The 41-year-old superstar was scheduled to make his debut on Mexican territory on March 28 during the official reopening of Azteca Stadium—a legendary venue that has witnessed performances from numerous football icons, including Pelé and Diego Maradona. This would have been a historic first appearance; however, the forward remains not fully fit following a right hamstring injury sustained on Feb. 28 during a match for his Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr.
Portugal's skipper will proceed with his rehabilitation program in Madrid to ensure peak condition for the World Cup.
'No Danger'—Roberto Martínez Provides Cristiano Ronaldo Injury Return Date

Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez remains optimistic that Ronaldo will return to complete fitness in time for the nation's World Cup debut in Group K on June 17.
"No, [Ronaldo's] not at risk [of missing the competition]," Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez stated Friday while revealing his 27-man roster. "It's a minor muscular injury, and we believe he can return within a week or two.
"Everything Cristiano has accomplished physically this season demonstrates that he's in excellent condition."
If Ronaldo achieves his expected complete recovery, the summer tournament will represent a historic sixth World Cup appearance for the icon. He has represented Portugal since Germany 2006 and became the first player to find the net at five World Cups with a spot-kick against Ghana in Qatar.
Ronaldo also maintains records for the most official goals in men's professional football history (965) and in international competition (143). With just 35 remaining, Ronaldo has expressed his ambition to reach the 1,000 milestone. Close behind him, Inter Miami's Lionel Messi became the second player to achieve 900 goals with a strike against Nashville SC on Wednesday.
Mexico Fans Left Disappointed

Mexico City's Azteca Stadium is scheduled to reopen for Mexico's friendly versus Portugal on March 28, following months of refurbishments in preparation for the venue's third World Cup hosting.
Ronaldo's first appearance in Mexico and at the renowned stadium was eagerly awaited throughout the nation, as tickets to witness the superstar sold out in minutes last December. More than one million people attempted to secure tickets for the match, according to Fanki ticket data from Soy Fútbol, leaving thousands unsuccessful.
Secondary market tickets in the lower sections cost over $450 up to $1,800 on StubHub as of Friday. The most affordable tickets still exceed $200; however, following news of Ronaldo's absence, resale prices for the game are declining.
