Crystal Palace Boss Delivers Blunt Three-Word Shutdown Over Marc Guehi Liverpool Transfer Speculation

When questioned about whether Marc Guéhi would remain at Crystal Palace once the summer transfer window closes, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner was decisive: "He must stay."

Liverpool have been consistently connected with a potential move for the highly-regarded defender. Palace chairman Steve Parish acknowledged that the club would be compelled to part with Guéhi should he decline to renew his contract that runs out next summer. Without any contract renewal talks taking place, Liverpool were anticipated to soon finalize a transfer worth approximately £35–45 million ($47.2–60.7 million).

Glasner had different plans. Having already lost his creative cornerstone when Eberechi Eze moved to Arsenal, the Austrian manager was determined not to see another key player from his squad taken away with only days left to find an adequate replacement.

"Finding a Marc Guéhi substitute who can immediately perform in the Premier League is impossible," Glasner declared during his Friday press briefing.

That same day, reports surfaced that Palace had reportedly reached an agreement with Toulouse to acquire Jaydee Canvot, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 19-year-old has accumulated just 22 first-team appearances during a brief career that started merely 11 months ago. While certainly a promising talent for the future, Canvot would not serve as a direct substitute for Guéhi, Palace's field captain and reliable England squad member.

Unlike certain other prominent Premier League stars who refuse to play to force transfers, Guéhi has not only participated but excelled under this intense transfer speculation. The 25-year-old wore the captain's armband in Norway on Thursday evening as Palace earned a 0–0 result against Fredrikstad to secure their place in the Conference League group stage—AZ, Dynamo Kyiv, Strasbourg, KuPS, AEK Larnaca and Shelbourne now await them in the tournament's league phase.

Before the vital European qualifier, Glasner had praised: "I communicate with Marc nearly daily and it was obvious he would feature in this Norway match and then we'll see what happens next. But I'm confident that I can depend on Marc and trust him completely."

Should the Austrian manager get his wish, he will continue to depend upon Guéhi throughout the remaining season.
